Today was a reminder that what I do truly matters.
So often, I get caught up in the busy side of it all — schedules, editing, traveling, deadlines — that I don’t always stop long enough to fully realize the impact these portraits of our heroes can carry. I know they matter. I know they bring pride, joy, and connection to the men and women who serve. I love the laughter during sessions, the stories shared, and the friendships built along the way.
But today hit differently.
Talking with members of Fairview Fire in North Carolina reminded me just how sacred these images can become. Thank you for the kind words of how much my art means to you all. How special what I do is. You will always hold a special place in my heart. Always.
This evening, I listened to a father tell about his little boy, growing up with a love and desire to follow in his footsteps — standing on the edge of adulthood — who will never see another sunrise this side of Heaven. I listened as his father spoke about his love for the fire service and his desire to help others. I watched a slideshow of this young man growing up. Photos of him doing what he loved. And in that moment, the weight of it all settled in. A reminder, that what I do matters.
These photos are more than portraits. They are memories frozen in time. They become comfort. Legacy. Proof that someone lived, served, loved deeply, and mattered.
A hero never forgotten.
A legacy forever preserved.
