Grindelwald Trekking begins with an unforgettable first day on the Eiger Ultra Trail—a 12-day solo, hut-to-hut hiking journey through the Swiss Alps.
Although the Eiger Ultra Trail was originally designed as a trail-running race around Grindelwald, its spectacular route also makes for an incredible multi-day trekking adventure. On Day 1, I hiked from Grindelwald village to Gleckstein Hut, covering 6.7 miles with approximately 4,500 feet of elevation gain.
The trail begins with a steady ascent through alpine pastures and meadows. As the landscape becomes more rugged, the path climbs steeply along rocky, narrow cliffs and into a dramatic gorge. Far below, Grindelwald village becomes smaller and smaller, while the surrounding mountains rise all around me. Some sections are narrow and exposed, with fixed wire cables and steep drop-offs, making this a thrilling and challenging start to the journey.
I finally reached Gleckstein Hut late in the evening, surrounded by mist. Then, something unexpected happened—a herd of ibex were wandering around the hut! Seeing these wild animals in the foggy alpine landscape created a mysterious and unforgettable end to the first day of my hike.
This is only Day 1 of a 12-day journey. More spectacular trails, mountain huts, glaciers, and adventures are ahead.

The highlights of my 2026 Swiss Alps hiking hut-to-hut adventure!
Experience the breathtaking Eiger Ultra Trail on a 12-day hut-to-hut trek above Grindelwald, explore the Aletsch Glacier, the largest glacier in the Alps, and spend a night at the Hörnli Hut, the iconic base camp for climbers attempting the Matterhorn.

First hike of the season in Mount Rainier National Park — and it did not disappoint.
Soon after Sunrise Road opened, we headed straight to the Owyhigh Lakes Trail, a hidden gem just 2 miles from the White River entrance in Mount Rainier National Park. This early-season hike is one of the best ways to experience alpine scenery right after winter snow melts.
The trail starts deep in a quiet forest. Fallen trees, soft light filtering through the woods, and signs of winter’s impact make the journey feel wild and untouched.
Then everything opens up.
A wide alpine meadow bursts into view, filled with early-season wildflowers — one of the most beautiful scenes you can find in Mount Rainier National Park.
From there, the landscape transforms again: Owyhigh Lakes appear below dramatic, jagged peaks, revealing a stunning high-alpine setting that feels far from the crowds.
Even without a view of Mount Rainier itself, this hike delivers unforgettable scenery — crystal-clear lakes, vibrant wildflowers, and rugged mountain backdrops that showcase the raw beauty of Mount Rainier National Park.

A challenging hike near Snoqualmie Pass!
Polallie Ridge Trail is a strenuous and lesser-known hike in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness near Cle Elum, about two hours from Seattle. Unlike many Washington hikes known for sweeping panoramic views, Polallie Ridge is more about solitude, peaceful forests, and the steady challenge of climbing deep into the wilderness.
We didn’t see any other hikers on the trail — only wild turkeys and grouses!

Nestled between Lake Hallstatt and the Alps, Hallstatt feels like a postcard come to life.
I explored the charming old town — pastel houses along the shore, the historic Market Square, and peaceful lakeside views.
I also visited the Salt Mine high above the village and stopped at the Skywalk for breathtaking views over the lake.
Along the way, I wandered up narrow stairways into the upper village, searching for hidden corners and quiet moments.
And at the end, I’ll show you around Pension Sarstein — my cozy lakeside base during my stay in Hallstatt.

Surrounded by dramatic Alpine peaks, Werfen sits in the heart of the Salzach Valley, just south of Salzburg—only about an hour away by train. This picturesque Austrian village is home to the striking Hohenwerfen Castle, Eisriesenwelt, the world’s largest ice cave, and a famous filming location from The Sound of Music.
In this video, I spent one full day in Werfen, exploring the charming village center, visiting the medieval castle, venturing deep into the ice cave, and hiking along The Sound of Music Trail. To wrap up, I’ll also show Werfenerhof Inn, where I stayed for two nights during my time in Werfen.

Neuschwanstein Castle is one of the most iconic castles in the world, located in Bavaria, Germany, near the town of Füssen. After many years of dreaming about this moment, I finally had the opportunity to visit Neuschwanstein Castle and the nearby Hohenschwangau Castle.
I also hiked along the stunning Alpsee Lake below the castles, once a playground of the Bavarian royal family, and took a cable car up Tegelberg Mountain in the Bavarian Alps. While the castles were truly magnificent, it was the breathtaking beauty of the Bavarian Alps and the serene lake that captured my heart even more.
