If you can brave the mosquitos the woods are live and full of green. The mosquitos are the worst I’ve experienced in Door County I can recall. Period. Only worst I’ve ever had was in the boundary waters. Don’t be brave, use deet or wear a beekeepers suit. These shots are from yesterday at Newport. I hiked Potawatomi today (no photos) and I’m telling you I hiked under 17 minute miles. It because I wanted to break a record but because that’s as fast as I could walk. It’s bad out there.

Peak cherry blossom season has arrived in Door County

The orchards just north of Sturgeon Bay are absolutely glowing right now. If you’ve been waiting for the perfect time to take a drive, walk the orchards, or grab photos, this is it. Blossoms are looking near peak today and likely won’t last long with the warmer weather and wind in the forecast.

One of my favorite parts of spring in Door County is how quickly everything changes. A week ago the trees were bare and now entire hillsides are covered in white and soft pink blooms.

If you head out, please be respectful of private orchards and property owners while enjoying the views.

Door County cherry blossoms only happen because of thousands of tiny workers most people barely notice.
Bees play a huge role in pollinating the cherry trees that make this peninsula famous. During blossom season, many local orchards bring in managed honeybee hives to help ensure a healthy crop later in the summer. Without strong pollination, there wouldn’t be much of a cherry harvest at all.
For a few weeks every spring, the orchards are alive with sound, movement, and the start of another Door County season.

Door County in May is wild.
One day the county is posting fish boils and morels, the next day everyone suddenly becomes a cherry blossom influencer for 4 days.
By next week we’ll all pretend this never happened and move directly into marina traffic and goats on roofs season.
