As many of you know, Andrew and I spent time photographing and following a pair of Eagles on Long Island and their journey of being parents of (5 clutches over the years).
Unfortunately, the male eagle (aka dad), passed away early this morning. He had been sick or injured (cause is unknown at the moment) and they sent out a rescue team yesterday to get him. While they successfully retrieved him from an ice cold pond and got him to a rehab immediately- he did not make it thru the night.
He was surrounded by those who knew how to take the best care of him and they tried their very best.
I’m heartbroken. For him, for his mate (mom) and for all of us who have followed these two and fell in love with their love story! While they are wild animals and not pets, they became like family to a lot of us and Andrew and I learned so much from watching this pair!
Please say a prayer for his mate …. As I am sure she is heartbroken (they mate for life). She more than likely will find a new mate in due time but she just lost her love.
Rest in Peace Dad … you will be missed!!! 🦅
