This morning I met Sarah and Eric, and their very sweet girl Lilly Lou, for a Forget-Me-Not session. Eric adopted Lilly (now 14 years old!) from a New Hampshire shelter when she was just a year old. They've climbed many mountains together, and explored countless trails, many leading to the top of New Hampshire's 4k foot peaks! These days, Lilly ambles a little slower down the trails, and she might not hear as well as she used to when Sarah and Eric call her back, but she still loves being on adventures with her family. Thank you Sarah and Eric for sharing your sweet Lilly Lou (and her sister Sadie) with me this morning. It was an honor to be part of the pack for a little while! 💖🐾

Molly has two very different horses. Atlas is an OTTB with a flair for the dramatic, and Scarlett is a no-nonsense, redheaded grade quarter horse mare. Atlas found his way to Molly two years ago and it was love at first sight. They overcame his medical challenges (which resulted in behavioral challenges) and Molly cried happy tears when he took care of her and was a perfect gentleman at their first horseshow together.

Scarlett and Molly have been together for three years now. After a long history of being used up and discarded by humans, Scarlett was Molly's confidant after the loss of her cousin. It took nearly a year for Scarlett to come out of her shell, but when she did, Molly became a part of Scarlett's little herd.

For a little while on Friday, I was lucky enough to bear witness to the relationship she shares with each of them. Both very different, and both cherished for exactly who they are. Thank you Molly for sharing Atlas and Scarlett with me!

I've had the pleasure of knowing Lizzie since she was 12, and I've known Bailey since the day they met a few years later. I've had them in front of my lens countless times, and I've watched them grow up together. Lizzie's goal for this session was to capture a triptych of portraits of three of her horses, as well as a photo of her with all three of them, and we did all of that. But when we had a few extra minutes and I asked who she wanted some one-on-one photos with, it was Bailey she came back to. Her first horse. Her heart horse. It will always be Bailey.

When I met Rook, Grey, and Beebo for a Forget-Me-Not Session today two things were immediately clear. First, Beebo has never met a stranger. He greeted me with big wags and eager sniffs and was happy to show me around his home and introduce me to his family. Second is that Beebo is absolutely cherished by all who know him.

Rook first met Beebo back in 2020 when they were working as a dog groomer in another state. They found Beebo eating discarded dog treats out of the dumpster in the alleyway and took him home. They tried for months to find Beebo's home, with no success. It turns out, he was already there. Some things are just meant to be.

Beebo adores blankets, snuggles, and all things comfort. One of his favorite pastimes is sitting in his own personal booster seat at the table and listening to vinyl with his family. Beebo is about fourteen years old now, and even though his health is failing, his love for his humans is as big as ever.

Thank you Rook and Grey for sharing Beebo with me today, and thank you Beebo for welcoming me into your home 💖🐾

Who will be joining us? Can't wait for this special event!

It's FOCUS ON THE FARM time! (yes, very hard to believe...as we gallop through the summer..!). Please join us for this very special event on Sunday, September 13th at 4 pm right here at the farm. Now in its third year, Focus on the Farm will of course feature beautiful photography of the herd in our silent auction -- and this year we are also adding 'non-horsey' items -- restaurant gift cards, gift baskets from local businesses, AND we'll be live-auctioning a stay at a house in the Outer Banks! This evening is full of joy and gratitude for the incredible work that happens here and for the generosity of our donors. The Society is grateful to IDEXX for joining us as this year's presenting sponsor. Ticket are available at https://www.msspa.org/focus-on-the-farm/.

I stopped by the Maine State Society for the Protection of Animals early Friday morning. My goal was to capture just one more special image to have printed for the upcoming Focus on the Farm event next month. Believe it or not, none of these images made the cut, and you'll have to attend the event to see the ones that did!

It's time to buy your tickets and mark your calendars for the 2026 Focus on the Farm, happening this year on September 13th at 4pm at the Maine State Society for the Protection of Animals in Windham. This annual fundraising event helps to support the work that the MSSPA does year-round, 24/7, to rehabilitate the horses and donkeys in their care.

Join us and enjoy drinks and hors d'oeuvres as you peruse the silent auction and appreciate the work of 25 local photographers, as well as gift cards and contributions from other local businesses.

Link for tickets in the comments! Will we see you there?
