I ventured over to Forest Park while it was snowing on Saturday. As I was standing on a bridge near Art Hill and contemplating going back to my car to warm up I saw this eagle flying directly at me! I had heard there were a few eagles that came to visit each winter, but this was my first time spotting the elusive eagle myself.

A couple Mondays ago I woke up early, caught a 3 hour flight to Salt Lake City, drove 4 hours to Moab, worked for 5 hours, then ventured into Arches National Park after dark just to sit under this rock arch and look at the stars.

Star Trails over Eminence, MO

I found myself away from the city lights for Halloween weekend and for once the clouds cooperated! Milky Way season is about over so I thought I'd play around with some star trails. Multiple images were combined to make this photo. It's about a 25-minute total exposure time.

Steam rising into the Milky Way at Grand Prismatic Spring - Yellowstone National Park

This was not the image I had in mind when I woke up at 2:45am and headed into the park to photograph the Milky Way over Grand Prismatic Spring. But it was late May and several nearby trails were closed due to grizzly bear activity, so I figured I'd play it safe and shoot from the parking lot rather than walk along the boardwalk.

Avalanche Creek

On the hike to Avalanche Lake, after you hike through Trail of the Cedars, you'll come across Avalanche Creek. The trail follows along the creek for a good while. If you look closely you can see how the water has carved through the rock and smoothing it over the years.

Grand Teton National Park

My second trip to the Tetons, but my first trip finding and photographing bears. I've been hooked ever since. Bears are the reason I got a 600mm Sigma lens. There's no way I'd be able to see them up close (while maintaining a safe distance) with the lenses I currently had.

This black bear was filling up on berries in preparation for winter hibernation.
