Natural backlit sunlight spotlighting a mature female hummingbird approaching a man-made feeder. Approximately 65 incredibly fast wing beats per second.

This scenario to the unaided human eye looks like a small flash going off several times. If you are fortunate enough to see this and hear the wing beats at the same time, it will take your breath away.

Wildlife photos and fishing have a few things in common. Planning, strategy, lots of patience, and knowing when the time is right. A little luck goes a long way too! :)

These photos were taken in late morning with variable cloudiness and constantly changing partial to full sun as clouds began to build for a thunderstorm.

I will spare the details but dialing in the right settings and choosing the correct lens and positioning yourself for the photo are important in capturing wildlife and building the scene.

Not to mention, it didn't take long before the hummingbirds wised up and became increasingly uncomfortable with me even though I was giving them space by using a long telephoto lens.

These principles and practices and knowledge of your subject become second nature and more instinctive for me the more I apply them to varied and challenging subjects and projects.
