I have a problem… I want to be friends with everyone I meet. Clients included. Yesterday a little girl wanted me to stay and make pancakes with her after our session. I truly wanted to say yes 😂🙃😆 My portrait session with Greg was so fun and laid back. He was one of the nicest humans I have met, and so funny! I love that clients end up aligning with my energy. I think that is what happens when your art/creative expression are honest and reflect who you are on the inside. Thanks for trusting in me Greg! Fun fact: Greg asked me to take his portrait after we met waiting to get our hair cut and were making small talk. I was rambling on about the beautiful light streaming into the hair salon 😂✨ as if other people appreciate when the light is just right. 📸

“I needed a head shot for my business and had a lot of trepidation about posing for a photo. Ann put me at ease and opened my eyes to the wide range of skills that separates good photographers from ELITE
ones. Ann’s depth of technical experience and creativity combined with her warm personality and great sense of humor created a space where I could just be myself. The results were fantastic and I HIGHLY recommend Ann!!”

Here’s a I took at today while on site for a session with ’s incredible Nurse nominees for the Excellence in Nursing Awards. I used Lightroom Mobile to edit this by selecting portrait light skin 01, adding a touch of saturation and making a slight crop. I don’t like to edit a ton, and this is an iPhone photo (old version iPhone 13! 😱). So I let it minimal!

Feeling the Mother’s love today. I am pretty obsessed with the role of the Mother.

The creator of life.
The nurturing embrace.
The gentle nudge.
The fierce storm.
The beautiful presence.
The compassionate love.
The giver, the gift, the heart.

To all the Mommas out there feeling unseen, I see you! 📷

As I write this post, my tiny kitty is climbing all over me. How fitting. This portrait session with Renée Raub-Ayers for was very much influenced by her foster cat, which ended up in the majority of the photographs that I captured that day. She loved to be photographed! Renée is an Alton, IL based artist (painter) by night and accountant by day. Her studio is a dream/drool-worthy studio with light spilling through large windows and accented by white shiplap walls. I always feel empowered and inspired when photographing fellow female artists that are not only talented, but making a statement through their work (the red painting seen behind her in one of the portraits seen here is called “Barefoot, Boots and Broken Hearts” and was created after the war in Ukraine began). To learn more about her, check out

“I use my brushes and paints to cut what I’m seeing and hearing into moments, into stories, into a piece of time my soul needs space to process more fully. My little studio, set in a garden, becomes a place for me to touch all of what I see and hear.” Using art to comprehend the transformative and sometimes tragic moments of life, Raub-Ayers also takes time to enjoy life’s simple moments. She says, “in this moment there is beauty, horror, and hope, and I explore it all with a brush in hand.”

Last year, a St. Louis wellness voice went global.

Black Yogi Nico Marie—a yoga instructor, DJ, and meditation artist—was nominated in 2025 for a Webby Award after “building a widespread following through accessible, representation-forward wellness content”.

I was honored, inspired (as a Yogi and Yoga teacher) to have the opportunity to photograph her at . Her energy was calm, strong, welcoming, empowering and graceful. Check out her feed 🙏Namaste!

This is by far my absolute favorite project to do. Here are my 3 kiddos, on my traditional white backdrop, in natural light. These are some of my favorite portraits of them. ✨ I was inspired by over 10 years ago and began following her method of school portraiture, photographing young children in natural light on a simple background. I decided to use a white backdrop instead of black, because I have always loved fresh, white and light colors. I liked the idea of putting their little faces in front of this clean, bright color to embrace their innocence. I began taking this method to schools in St. Louis and have seriously enjoyed every minute of it! Ok nothing is easy or perfect but this is my joy. You put these littles in front of a white backdrop and they look at me with their big eyes 👀 a suddenly their big personalities come through. Yes I have to work for the smiles at times, but that part is fun for me. I have learned so much on my own—as all independent business owners do, but I am so grateful for Michelle’s workbook that launched me in this direction (thank you! 💯). School photos are still fun for my kids to do, but so much can be lost in the method of a quick photo that gets slapped on a neon background.

If you are interested in bringing this to your child’s school— please reach out. If you are interested in a small portrait session at your home or in studio, let’s make it happen. If you aren’t sure what you want, still reach out and we can chat 👌🏼

Hellooooooo!!! I am still here! I am still a photographer! I am still taking clients 🥰😆. I have been slammed for months and finally have a little breathing space.

I hope you are all hanging in there after the crazzzzy fall/holiday season, the new year and (some of you), the deep cold winter. 🥶

I will continue to fill you in on what type of photography I do, but to start you off—here is my family’s fall/holiday porch session that I set up myself (family sessions are a constant one for my business). This was a quick session, and to be honest—a bit of a struggle on that current day. 1 or 2 of my kiddos were just in an off mood. It happens. So what do you do? You move forward after giving them space. You don’t shame them, criticize them or get overly controlling. I take other photos (portraits usually) while they cool off. Maybe you give them some food, water, or space to walk it off or speak about their feelings. Then you change the scene and try something new. Maybe you bribe them if all else fails. And as the very last resort… you take photos without them (then they may hop in after cooling off). Maybe reschedule. If this ever happens in a session with me, I will not double charge you. I’ve been rained out, construction zoned out and had last minute sicknesses, as just a few examples.

Please don’t let “fear of session catastrophe” cause you to put off booking a session. I put photos off too. But the times I grab my camera and make it happen, I never regret. I am here for you. The first step is picking a time of year and we go from there. Maybe a porch session feels good. Or a portrait session of your kids only, outside or in front of my white backdrop. Maybe we meet at a winter friendly indoor location so you don’t have to clean your house. Maybe you embrace this chapter and leave your house the way it is and the kids are in pajamas! I always encourage some freedom with the kiddos in my sessions so they have FUN and don’t feel so much pressure. Even the babies. If we don’t embrace who they are and what they are expressing, why are we doing this?

What are you afraid of when it comes to sessions? What do you love about them?
