We FINALLY made it over to see our friends at My Sicilian Garden on Saturday after saying we were going to do it approximately alllllll summer. And naturally, we made it on their very last Saturday outside DiGregorio’s. Better late than never!!!
Their son is one of my son’s best friends, and the more I get to know Joey & Joanna, the more impressed I am by these two. They both work, have a family, do all the normal life things… and then “on the side” casually run an entire garden business. 😂
All summer they’ve been outside DiGregorio’s on Saturdays, plus local events and vendor booths, and they keep a stand stocked at their house throughout the week.
Maybe I’m extra sentimental about this because I grew up in a family business on The Hill. My childhood was basically spent at Mama Toscano’s Ravioli, so bringing my own boys down here to buy ACTUAL homegrown vegetables from another local family was special. There’s just something really cool about watching people grow food in their own backyard and then seeing it end up on the tables of families and businesses around St. Louis.
And obviously we had to thoroughly investigate the merchandise. The boys approved. I approved. And as a self-proclaimed cantaloupe snob, I need everyone to understand that this was genuinely the sweetest cantaloupe I have ever eaten.
They’re wrapping up for the season soon, but their home stand is still open Monday–Friday, 8–8, so go grab some goodies while you still can. 🍅🌻🍈
