POV: you take your first burlesque class with BiBi Dazzle

Burlesque and pin-up photos are basically what drew me to bo***ir photography, so now I’m bringing it back around.

This week was my first class with BiBi Dazzle Leaping Lizards PAS and I’m already hooked. Yes, I’m strutting everywhere, and no, I’m not stopping anytime soon.

While I’m pretty confident with my body and how I look, I’ve never been what you might call “graceful.” I’m clumsy, awkward, and I’ve never taken a dance class in my life. I got kicked out of gymnastics because I couldn’t do a cartwheel.

Standing in a room with a dozen women, watching my every step in the mirror, and moving my body (in heels!) felt so liberating and exhilarating. I messed up steps, and nobody cared. I felt right at home in the space and in my body, and I can’t wait to go back next week. Expect to see stories about my new burlesque journey over the next 7 weeks!

Now to come up with a burlesque name…any thoughts?

A lot of work goes into preparing for your session, but your photoshoot shouldn't feel like another item on your to-do list.
So, I'll handle it all.

I'll take care of all the planning, design, and styling. I'll help you decide what to wear, help you shop, and even dress you with pieces from my studio wardrobe. I'll guide you through the whole shoot, showing you how to pose and telling you where to look.

In fact, most people probably don't even notice.

If you're feeling self-conscious about your body, you are absolutely not alone. We've all got those parts we like to try to hide, but guess what? So does eeeveryone else.

Don't let these things stop you from living your life, loving yourself, and celebrating your body—every dip, roll, and scar.

There's a lot of vulnerability that comes with getting in front of the camera for a photoshoot. Every client who comes to me a a session is opening themself up to me, so here is me opening up and being vulnerable for you...

This past weekend was Unbuttoned, my white button-down editorial mini session weekend. I launched it a couple months ago, and it didn't fill. Not even close, not a single booking. So I canceled it.

Was I bummed?
Of course.

Did I spend my weekend wallowing on the couch watching football and playing Stardew Valley?
Yes, yes I did.

Is this going to stop me?
Hell no.

I could dress that up a dozen ways but the simplest version is that the silence was louder than words, and I heard it. I don't consider this a failure, though. I'm regrouping and reworking, diving right back in to keep serving my other clients, and moving on to the next idea.

But first, I would really love to hear from you if you didn't book an Unbuttoned session (which is all of you...).

Was it the concept? The timing? The price? Something about the format that didn't feel right for you? I'm genuinely asking because I build my work around what my clients want, and I'd rather have the honest answer than a guess coupled with self-pity.

In case you need to here this: you're allowed to not recognize yourself right now.

If you're going through major changes right now (divorce, a diagnosis, becoming a mom, walking away from something that wasn't working anymore...), you may be trying to find yourself again. Whatever cracked your life open this year, one of the hardest parts isn't just surviving the change, it's figuring out who you are on the other side of it.

The reason you look uncomfortable in photos has nothing to do with your appearance.

It has everything to do with whether or not someone is directing you.

Nobody walks into my studio knowing how to pose right off the bat. It is 100% my job to guide you through poses, expressions, and anything else on set.

You’ll look way more comfortable when you’re in front of my camera, I promise.
