Ope, it's official! Art gallery #2 is officially on the books for my piece "Ptolemy"! Super excited for the Art of Nature show at Soulard Art Gallery. Opening night is May 16th for those who would like to attend and runs until June 20th.
"Ptolemy" captures the primal struggle within the human soul, embodied through two white wolves locked in a fierce yet paradoxical display of violence and joy. Covered in blood, the wolves' expressions are a blend of aggression and gleefulness, symbolizing the conflicting forces that tear at our emotions. Their battle, intense and unrelenting, mirrors the internal chaos many face when grappling with opposing feelings, torn between rage and exhilaration, pain and satisfaction. The wolves’ pristine white fur, stained with blood, suggests the purity of emotion, distorted by the harsh realities of human experience. Ultimately, this artwork conveys the tension between the raw, animalistic nature of emotion and the larger cosmic forces that shape and challenge our existence. It is a poignant reflection on the inevitability of emotional conflict and the delicate balance we must navigate within ourselves.

I am pleased to introduce myself and my artistic pursuits. Professionally, I am known as Drunken Possum Studios, while personally, I am Summer Brouk. With 14 years of experience in the arts, I have established myself as a skilled 24-year-old artist in St. Louis. My artistic expertise is rooted in traditional drawing techniques, largely self-acquired. My passion for art stems from personal experiences with mental health, which I have confronted since my youth. Throughout my artistic journey, I have refined my skills in pen and ink illustrations and explored digital illustration and painting. My artistic expression aims to convey the complexities of my mind, transforming traumas and joys into visual soundtracks. By embracing darkness as my muse, I strive to create beauty and seek acceptance through the vulnerability of unfiltered emotions. Art has been my best friend when I was fearful of my mind and has been my outlet to process what it means to be human.

"This Will Destroy Me"

First attempt of trying an alternate color technique with a xenomorph I completed in December that really kicked my brain into creative hyperdrive. I really want to create more work like this in the future as it was such a fun painting to do and such a great learning experience.
