How does one judge a film. Everyone has a different opinion. Everyone has different likes. Some filmmakers make films for recognition some filmmakers make films to heal. Some filmmakers make films to make people happy. If you go into a film festival, just looking for recognition you stand a very good chance of feeling like you wasted a lot of time. To me, making a film is just as much about the journey as it is the final product. Standing in the back of a packed house, listening to people laugh at things that you’ve made is more than enough. Having those same people vote your film as their favorite of the night is a huge cherry on a beautiful Sundae. Collaborating with great people and just enjoying being around people of like minds is the real win here. To be quite honest, this was probably the first year that the awards were secondary. I had a great time on three different film sets this year and I will take those memories with me forever.
