I wanted to clarify some things related to this post as my business moves forward. I WILL still be posting all of my sessions, that I have permission to share of course, including sessions with children. My posts may look a little different going forward as I will only choose images that do not directly show a child’s face. They may be facing away from the camera, hidden by mom or dad, or turned to the side looking away. I obviously want to share my work to social media as that is the main form of marketing in a small area and has brought me 99% of my business. However, this is a public page and anyone on or off Facebook can see, share, screenshot, or download my images right from the app. I feel it is a part of my responsibility as a photographer to protect these innocent children from their images being taken and misused. I have gone back and forth trying to decide how I wanted to handle this situation and the ultimate decision was to just not show them at all, even with consent.
Now for my teens & seniors, I feel this matter can be taken either way. Some parents may not want their minor child’s images shown, and some may not have a problem with it. Most teenagers are likely already on social media and posting pictures of themselves, their friends, and their families as is. I have decided to leave the consent to post teens & senior sessions up to the parents, unless they are 18+. I LOVE my senior sessions and those sessions are what got my business rolling to begin with. At the end of the day, my clients’ safety is my biggest concern and I have always shared my sessions with proper consent to do so. So to recap, I will not post any images that include a child’s face, even with consent. I will only post images of teens/seniors with explicit consent from the parents if they are still minors. I hope this clears up any misunderstandings and provides a better view of how I will operate business from here on out. Thank you for your support! 🤍
‼️ EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY ‼️
I will no longer be posting identifiable images of children on my photography page, signed release or not.
Recent developments surrounding AI-generated child sexual abuse material and the legal protections surrounding certain forms of AI-generated content have made me take a much harder look at what happens to the images we put into the world. The ability to take an innocent photograph of a child and manipulate it into something disturbing and harmful is a reality I cannot ignore. If our laws and systems are not going to adequately protect children from what this technology can be used for, then I feel a personal responsibility to do my part.
I always want to make my best effort to live on the correct side of history, and for me, that means choosing the safety and privacy of children over content for my business. I absolutely love sharing the beautiful moments I capture for my clients, and this decision was not made lightly. I will still photograph your families, capture those sweet memories, and deliver your galleries just as I always have. The only difference is that identifiable images of children will remain private.
The safety of children and my clients will always come before my business. 🤍 Thank you for trusting me with your families, your memories, and the people who mean the most to you. I truly appreciate your understanding and support as I make this change.
All previous posts with identifiable images of children have been removed from my social medias.
