Killdeer and their chicks from Kirby Preserve yesterday.
"Killdeer chicks are highly independent, down-covered babies known as "precocial" birds. Within minutes of hatching, they can walk, run, and forage for themselves. The parents guide them to feeding grounds but do not feed them directly. They will learn to fly and become independent in about 30 days."
Killdeer are famous for their broken-wing display, which they perform in an attempt to lure predators away from a nest by feigning injury. You can see some of that behavior in the clips.
