Some assignments are more than just another photography session; they’re a chance to step back into a piece of your own story.
Recently, I had the incredible privilege of photographing the 150th Anniversary Celebration of First Baptist Church of Strafford, a place that has been woven into my life for as long as I can remember.
This is the church where I grew up sitting beside my grandmother when I visited her church. It’s where I attended Vacation Bible School year after year, learning Bible stories, singing songs, and making memories that shaped my faith. Years later, it became the place where I served in my very first ministry role, running my own VBS events as children’s minister. Returning with a camera in my hands instead of sitting in the pews felt incredibly special.
As I looked through my lens, I wasn’t just capturing images; I was capturing generations of faith.
One of my favorite moments was watching an older church member become emotional after ringing the historic church bell that had been restored and set back up just for this anniversary celebration. You could see what that moment meant to him and to so many others who have called this church home.
Another photo that means so much to me is the congregation standing hand in hand, singing “I’m So Glad I’m a Part of the Family of God.” That tradition has been part of First Baptist for as long as I can remember. As soon as everyone joined hands, I was taken right back to my childhood, standing beside my grandmother at the end of every service, singing those same words together.
Thank you, First Baptist Church of Strafford, for allowing me to document such a meaningful milestone. It was an honor to preserve these memories for your church family and a gift to revisit a place that helped shape the person I am today.
