For more than 20 years, photography was my career.
And I made good money doing it.
I built a business from the ground up, learned how to sell, market, price my work, find clients and create something people were willing to invest in.
For a long time, that career was a huge part of who I was.
Then somewhere along the way, what I wanted started changing.
I wanted to be home more.
I wanted to raise my kids without feeling like I was constantly choosing between them and work.
I wanted time for homeschooling, our land, the animals, the garden, dinner around the table and the ordinary parts of family life that were passing way too fast.
So I walked away from a career that was working.
And I’ll be honest, that came with a whole lot more emotion than I expected.
Because when you’ve made your own money for most of your adult life, it’s hard to suddenly feel like that part of you has disappeared.
I love being home.
But I also still want to contribute financially.
I still want something that uses my brain.
I still want to create.
And I don’t believe the only two choices for women should be:
Build a career and sacrifice home.
or
Stay home and give up earning money.
I think there has to be something in between.
So I’m starting a new series here called:
🌾 HOMEGROWN INCOME
I’m going to explore realistic ways women can make money from the life they’re already building.
From home.
From their skills.
From their land.
From things they grow, make, know or create.
And I’m going to test some of these ideas myself and share what actually happens, including the ones that aren’t worth our time.
Because I want to figure out how to build income around the life I don’t want to leave.
And maybe you’re trying to figure that out too.
If you’re a woman who wants to be home with your family AND still make money, comment HOMEGROWN below. 🌾
I want to know how many of us are out here trying to find that middle ground.
