Imagery in general has been my obsession for as long as I can remember. I have spent countless hours reminiscing over old family photographs and even more hours spent on restoring some of those seemingly ancient images of generations long past. In the endless pursuit to document my own life, I have developed a deep appreciation for the idea of creating history through imagery for generations to co
me. During my early years in Primary School I strived to understand the concepts of using photography as a story telling art form. I can still recall the extreme fervor, excitement, and happiness this gave me at such a young age. My first ‘real' experience in the field came later as an assistant to a local wedding photographer… it was amazing. Following my graduation from High School, I attended the Art Institute of Pittsburgh where I worked diligently to broaden my experience and understanding of artistic and journalistic photography. My true inspiration for wedding photography came from my best friend of more than a decade, Kitty. What seems like a lifetime ago, she began a journey with photography to find her place within the art world at large. One day, she stumbled upon the opportunity to photograph a wedding and, deciding to take advantage of my early wedding experiences, she recruited me to support her new calling. Using art and fashion as a foundation for wedding photography, she helped teach me not to focus on what we know as “traditional wedding photography†but instead to use my creativity to tell a story. One of the most powerful experiences in my life was my own wedding day. Very unexpectedly, the intense emotion of that day came over me as the wedding date grew closer. For me, it was not only a celebration of my commitment to my husband, Darius, but also of our families. It was an opportunity to hug my 3 dearest uncles from California and to weep in joy at seeing my closest childhood friend who now lives in a distant African country. More than anything though, it was the day I married the man of my dreams. The experience was completely indescribable. With the memories from that day already starting to fade, I take great pleasure in revisiting the beautiful images from that once in a lifetime experience and I cherish them endlessly. The nearly incomprehensible emotions from that experience helped to show me that my focus in life belonged on wedding photography. It is a joyous honor in my life to be able to share in such a unique experience in the lives of others. Knowing how important my own wedding images are to me, I trust few people other than myself to capture such moments with care and sensitivity. I photograph every wedding as if it were my own.
