Here is another display from Skyfest 2024, this time from the United States Air Force.

A KC-135R Stratotanker flies in formation with a C-17 Globemaster III. This KC-135 flies with the 22nd Air Refueling Wing out of McConnell AFB in Kansas. The C-17 comes from McChord AFB here in WA State, and flies with the 62nd Airlift wing.

This here is flying a pair of Harvards, known here in the US as the AT-6 Texan. These 2 planes were originally delivered to the RCAF, and have shared a hangar in Alberta, CA since the 1980s under their current owners.

It's been a while, but I'm back! This next little series will be from the 2024 Skyfest airshow at Fairchild AFB.

Here we have ! A tandem performance by Todd and "Christo" in their RV8 and RV7 from Van's Aircraft.

Lots of stuff going on in life, but I'm gonna try to get back into a rhythm with the pictures.

The Joseph C. Barron Flour Mill, locally known as the Old Mill, is the last standing flour mill in Southeast Washington. As many as 19 different mills populated the area, but as cheaper and more convenient flour factories grew in Spokane, the smaller ones closed down. Built in 1890, the old mill produced flour until the 1960s, then was converted for producing organic flours and cereals.

The business was run on honor and integrity. A sign inside read: "If no one is here, serve yourself". Customers would take what they needed, and they would leave payment in the drawer.

The town it stands in, Oakesdale, has a yearly craft fair centralized around the mill, called Old Mill Days. It celebrates the industry and the business that the old mill brought to the community.

First post with a new camera! Finally moving into the world of mirrorless.

Engine number 70 of the Mt. Rainier Scenic Railroad awaits departure in Elbe, WA. This steam locomotive was built in April 1922 by Baldwin Locomotive Works, who was the largest steam engine manufacturer during their peak. This 2-8-2 engine was first sold to Polson Logging Company, and served until Polson was bought by Rayonier Corporation in 1948. It was then retired in 1963 and served as a tourist train, eventually being bought by MRSR in the 90s. After a long overhaul, it returned to service in 2011 sporting the Polson Logging Co. livery, and has been running smooth ever since.

BNSF #2645 leading a short train through Spokane. Captured during one of the very few snows we've gotten this winter. 😆 This train came through about an hour after sunset, with the lights illuminating the snow in front.

The backside of the ADM Mill in Spokane, WA. This shot was taken from Playfair Commerce Park, just across a few sets of railroad tracks.

Playfair Commerce Park has a bit of history, going back well over a hundred years. The 60 acre location wedged between railroad tracks was one of the first locations for the Spokane Interstate Fair in 1901. They had a 1/2 mile dirt track that was used for automotive as well as horse racing. In the 1930s, the Spokane Fair moved to it's current location, and the property became Playfair Race Course. The dirt track was lengthened, and hosted horse races all the way through the end of the 20th century, entertaining an estimated 15 million people.

Due to declining interest, the track was sold in 2000, and traded hands a couple times before becoming Playfair Commerce Park in 2010. Today there are several warehouses built on the land, and there are large metal horses at the entrances, a tribute to days gone by.

The large mill in the photo is one of 2 surviving and operated mills in Washington State. Originally built in 1939, it was owned by Centennial Mills until 1981, when Centennial Mills was bought by ADM.

BNSF 3152 and 3120 leading a short train through Spokane, WA. The Burlington Northern and Santa Fe railroad has a rich history here in Spokane. The clock tower we have downtown in Riverfront Park was once a part of a Great Northern railyard on Havermale Island.

After the island was cleared for the '74 World Expo, the clock tower is the last remnant from the old train yard. Great Northern merged with others in 1970 to become Burlington Northern, and later in 1995 merged with several more to become Burlington Northern and Santa Fe, or BNSF.

BNSF now runs on over 32,000 miles of track, owns 8,000 locomotives, and is the leading railroad in the US by revenue.
