What happens when a hurricane interrupts an engagement session?
Plans went out the window for Amy & Roberts engagement session when a devastating hurricane swept through the Carolinas last month. The location we had planned on was completely cut off by downed trees and with most of the Upstate area without power, we had to pivot. When I called Amy to discuss possible back up plans, we discussed a few locations that “could” work, both knowing the original mountain top location wouldn’t be beat. Delaying the session by a few weeks seemed the best plan even if we had to settle for one of the backup locations.
Days before the reschedule engagement session, I saw hiking logs that showed the original location was accessible once again! Our original plan was able to happen and the best part: the leaves were closer to peak colors due to the delay.
Through it all, Amy & Robert were so flexible and understand! They weren’t worry about whether they got their top pick in location or not as they knew just being together and having their love documented was what mattered most.
This same attitude I’ve seen repeatedly after the hurricane hit: people focused less on their desires of things to go perfectly and instead on just being together (be it at church, with friend, or with family). It’s been an emotionally exhausting time for everyone but the flexibility, kindness, and grit has helped everyone continue to push through and hope for brighter days.
