Here is a collage of images from Old Faithful in Yellowstone NP. I took these images a few years back and thought they would make a great collage.

A few years back, I traveled to Yellowstone National Park for the first time. I was amazed at the variety of landscapes and scenic vistas. As we drove around the park, we had to stop every couple of miles to check out the wildlife, as well. One of the more famous landmarks is, of course, the Old Fai...

Just got back from the Tetons. Here is a sunrise image of Mt Moran in the northern part of the park. I captured this image just before the sun hit the top of the mountain. The fall colors are just about at their peak.
I like the fog coming off the water with the ducks swimming around. They made a few ripples in the water but had only minimal effect on the reflection.

I guess it has been a while since I posted an image, Yikes!!! Here is an image I created using 18 separate photos stitched together (i.e., so I can print the image very big). I was standing at the Snake River Overlook in the Grand Teton NP just a couple of weeks ago for this image.

You may be wondering why the Black and White version? Ansel Adams was in this same spot back in the 1940s and he has a famous image of this very same scene. You can say I was inspired by Mr. Adams for this shot. The composition is not quite the same. Over the last 80 years, the trees have grown up so you don't get much view of the river, so I added some length to the image so I could show some snakiness (sp?) in the Snake River. I did attempt to use his Zone System to get the final image. Feel free to offer comments on how well I hit the mark...

Featured Image: You know I had to take a photo of the eclipse, right? I was fortunate enough to be in the "Path of Totality" so I was able to shoot this from my driveway. I have several shots in the various states of coverage. This one was taken just as the sun was coming out of totality. This is called the Diamond Ring effect.

I was worried that the clouds would cover the eclipse and I wouldn't get any images. Mother Nature cooperated and we had quite a show. In fact, I like that there were clouds to add some dramatic effects to this image.

Let me know what you think.

The train station at Point of Rocks in Maryland has been operating since 1873. Today it services a whopping 140 passengers a day. It's not a whole lot, but for those 140 passengers, it offers an easy and efficient way to live in rural Maryland and work in Washington, DC.

I took this image using a medium format, film camera back in the mid 1990s. The station looks a bit different today. There are now new passenger platforms and platform shelters. While that helps keep the passengers comfortable in bad weather, it takes away from the historic aesthetics.

I used Kodak TMAX 100 film for this image. I developed the film myself at a local community college photo lab. More recently, I scanned it using an Epson V750 scanner. After cleaning up the dust particles (i.e., from the film scan), I played with the contrast and brightness a little to make this final image.

FEATURE IMAGE: This photo was taken at a little cove called "Far Beach" in the John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park on Key Largo, FL. You wouldn't think it, but the image was taken in mid-December. A couple was sitting in their chairs right in the middle of this scene, so I wasn't thinking I'd have a shot. I waited about 20 minutes, and they up and left. Several minutes later, I had several shots; this one was my favorite.

Feature Image: During a visit to Ocean City, Maryland in early May, I experimented with a technique I had just learned. About an hour after sunrise, before it got too crowded, I walked along the center of the boardwalk from Division Street to the Inlet taking photos every 100 steps. Then, using sophisticated software and averaging techniques, I combined the photos, one on top of the other. This is the resulting image.

If you are familiar to the Ocean City, MD boardwalk, you will begin to notice some familiar sites. I'm sure you see the Ferris wheel; how about the shark's head popping out of the building? You will see something new each time you look at it.

This is the view of the boardwalk in Ocean City, Maryland from Division Street to the Inlet. It is essentially what you will see if you were to walk straight down the middle of the boardwalk taking note of the scenery every so often. To get this collage, I walked along the boardwalk and took an imag...

Feature Image: Sorry it's been a while since I've posted an image. I've been busy with year-end paperwork. This is an image of my final pepper harvest. I picked them the first week of January right before our first "real" freeze of the season. I was impressed because normally everything dies out around mid-November.

Anyway, since I had to pick everything that was left, you will see a few that are not quite to the correct color. Trust me, though, they are just as hot. About 90% of the peppers are Habanero with a few Carolina Reapers and a couple of Cayenne Peppers. You can easily make out about 3 or 4 CRs but the Cayennes are harder to spot.

I'm not sure I 100% love this image, but I would be interested in feedback. I took the image outside with a blurry background. It didn't seem right, so I removed the background and photoshopped a white background. Then, to add a little bit of depth, I put in a shadow. I don't usually do much manipulation of my images, but I felt this one needed some work. I did brighten it up a bit, but the colors are as taken.

Feature Image: Painted Desert Inn. It was nearing the end of the day. I had come up from the south (i.e. Petrified Forest) and this was one of the final stops on the driving tour. I liked the sky color and the almost silhouette image of the Inn and the hillside.

As with many of my panoramic images, I took several photos (I think it was about 20) and stitched them together to create the final image. I had to beef up the brightness (and reduce the contrast) on the hillside to make sure the shadow detail showed properly.

I just printed this image (14.5" x 36") for my son to hang in his new house. So, I thought I'd make it the Feature Image.

The Painted Desert is right along side the Petrified Forest in the northeastern part of Arizona. (Route 66 essentially splits the two national parks.) I took this shot late in the day just as I was getting to leave for the day. I liked the setting sun and how it serves as a backdrop for the Desert I...

Feature Image: While bringing our daughter to college in AZ back in 2012, we made a few stops along the way. One of them, here, in Amarillo, TX. This is Cadillac Ranch, an art piece with 10 late model Cadillacs buried in the ground. To make this image, I took a single photo of each Caddie and then stitched them together. It was a long process, but it allows me to print huge prints.

BTW, I stopped by in October 2023, and the cars look quite different. Over the 11 years since my last time, about 6 inches of new paint was applied to the cars. The TX heat melted the paint and it appears to be sliding down the top of the hoods. It doesn't look near as nice today as it did just 11 years ago.

This Week's Feature Photo: I have several images of Burnside Bridge at Antietam National Battlefield. This is a more recent one I took when I went back to Maryland for a quick visit with family. I like the colors in this one.
