A season for the ages.

Union Pines’ historic softball run came to an end Saturday in the NCHSAA 6A State Championship Series at Duke University.

The Vikings battled through a remarkable postseason, captured the East Regional championship, and forced a winner-take-all Game 3 against South Caldwell on the state’s biggest stage.

For the players, coaches, families, and fans who made the trip and supported this team all season long, thank you for allowing me to document the journey.

Union Pines men’s lacrosse received a community send-off on Wednesday afternoon before departing for the NCHSAA 1A-6A East Regional Championship final.

Students, families, staff, and the Viking band lined the campus as the team headed out for tonight’s match against Middle Creek in Apex.

A quick gallery from the send-off is now online, and images are available as free downloads for players and families.

Union Pines men’s lacrosse defeated Carrboro 10–8 Friday night to advance to the NCHSAA 1A-6A East Regional final for the first time in program history.

The Vikings will travel to Middle Creek next week with a trip to the state championship on the line.

Union Pines softball is headed to the state championship series.

The Vikings defeated J.H. Rose 4–3 in eight innings Friday night to capture the NCHSAA 6A East Regional title and advance to the first state championship series in program history.

Union Pines softball celebrates after Tuesday’s 13–4 Game 1 win over J.H. Rose in the East Regional championship series.

After Wednesday’s 9–2 loss in Game 2, the Vikings return home Friday night for a winner-take-all matchup with a trip to the state championship series on the line.

Union Pines women’s soccer defeated East Chapel Hill 2–1 Monday night to advance to the NCHSAA 6A quarterfinals.

The Vikings now head to Jacksonville later this week with an East regional semifinal berth on the line.

Three teams. Three wins. Three more playoff runs continue.

Union Pines softball advanced to the East Regional for the first time in school history, while the Vikings women’s and men’s lacrosse teams moved on to the third round of the NCHSAA state playoffs.

Softball: 13–3
WLAX: 19–4
MLAX: 16–5
