Time to Make My Way Home — Dallas Edition ✈️

Eight days ago I left home for Montreal—my first international assignment—starting with a two-day, two-photographer headshot shoot… then flew ~1,500 miles south from snow and a 22° windchill to 75° in Dallas for a large-scale production.

Dallas meant jumping into an 18-photographer team—one of those weeks where everyone just gets it. The kind of rhythm, trust, and camaraderie that makes big events feel seamless.

Those are the moments I appreciate most.

Grabbed a late checkout at the Ga***rd Texan (clutch), eased into the morning, then treated myself to a few quiet hours in the United Club before heading out.

Sometimes the reset matters as much as the work.

And then one last moment on the way home…

A woman stops me after security:
“You were our photographer.”

Turns out she and her husband had front-row seats all week—watching me work the entire time.

Then I ran into them again at the gate…
and again while boarding—this time with the show manager running the whole production backstage.

Same smiles. Same energy.

Snapped a quick selfie on the way to my seat.

That’s the part you can’t plan for.

You just show up, do the work…
and sometimes people notice.

About 1,200 miles to go…
~3,200 miles when it’s all said and done.

Tired—but the good kind.

And soon…

Home.
My own bed.
Leo.
Jen.

Perfect.

Leave yourself open to those moments…
life usually delivers. 📸

Time to Make the Photos: Dallas Edition 📸✈️

Montréal → Dallas.

One assignment down.
Next one already in motion.

But somehow… Leo came with me.

Hotel checkout → cat conversation.
Newsstand → calico photos.
Lyft driver → limited English, my nonexistent French… still made it work.

She’d just told her husband she liked the name Jim.
Then picked me up.

Her youngest?

Leo.

“Okay… that’s a sign.”

This is why I wear the shirt.

Cat people show up.
They connect.
They’re just… good humans.

YUL departures.
U.S. preclearance.
Air Canada boarding.

Time to Make the Headshots: Montréal Edition 🇨🇦📸 (Latergram)
(Saturday travel—posting on Tuesday)

Trip #3 of the year—and my first international assignment.

Leo gave the official 05:50 approval (reluctantly).
Foggy sunrise drive.
doing its cherry blossom thing. 🌸
→ PreCheck → wheels up.

Winter still hanging on below somewhere over the border.

Touchdown at Montréal–Trudeau (YUL).
Crisp air. Blue skies. Different energy.

Quick check-in downtown—warm cookie still undefeated.
Even the elevator sets the tone here.

And just like that…

New city. New light. New stories.

Time to Make the Photos: Boston Edition 📸✈️

Trip #2 of the year is underway.

The morning started with the traditional send-off ritual from Leo — a few high fives, a shoulder ride (his newest obsession), and a Purr Pop before I headed out the door. Apparently I’m now both transportation and snack provider.

From there it was a sunrise run to , a quick glide through + TSA PreCheck, and wheels up from Seat 1A on 641 heading north to Boston.

Yesterday in Virginia it hit 84° and felt like spring had fully arrived.

Boston this morning?
41° with a wind chill around 32°.

So… yeah. That escalated quickly.

This is only my second trip of the year, but judging by what’s already on the calendar, the travel schedule is about to get busy and the miles are about to start stacking up.

Different cities. Different people. Different stories to capture.

Boston — time to make the photos.

Leo seemed confident I’d figure it out… once he finished riding around on my shoulders and supervising the whole operation.

Does anyone else have a pet that thinks they’re in charge of the house?

Time to Make the Photos — Pittsburgh Edition
First travel assignment of 2026 ✈️

It starts at home.

Leo’s shoulder-riding trick has been in development for a while — early beta versions included tentative hops and unstable landings.

But three days ago? Full release.
New capability unlocked.

Now he waits on the kitchen island or the back of a chair like he’s listening for boarding groups. I walk by — hop aboard. Paws lock. Tail up. Immediate hearty purr mode.

Apparently I am now his People Mover.

Which feels appropriate.

Outside, winter hangs low and blue over Northern Virginia. Snow across the fields. The radar dome near Dulles rising out of the fog — quietly tracking storms before the rest of us even know they’re forming.

Forecast energy. Pattern recognition. A fitting backdrop for the first assignment of the year.

Washington Dulles International Airport looking like the 1962 future we were promised. TSA Pre glowing green. The big IAD letters steady as ever.

And lined up outside the window — the People Movers. White tops stamped in red: OK. IL. TX. RI. MT. MD. HI.

State abbreviations.

I’ve flown through here more times than I can count and somehow never noticed. Today they lined up like roll call and it clicked.

Wait. Those are all states.

People love to complain about them. I don’t get it. I’ll take a People Mover over the escalator–tram–escalator maze any day. You roll across the tarmac like a dignified airport prairie schooner and arrive. Direct. Efficient. Surface-level.

Sometimes the unpopular thing is just the thing that works.

Pre-flight mimosa in hand. A free upgrade to United First (thank you kindly 🙏). Pittsburgh ahead.

And already on the books for 2026: Boston. Montreal. Dallas. Toronto. Anchorage.

Oh, the places we’ll go.

Leo unlocked a new level this week.

Now it’s my turn.

Time to make the photos.

Time to Make the Photos – Orlando Edition ✈️📸
(Last Travel Assignment of the Year!)

Wrapping up the year the usual way: gear packed, cat shirt on, and Leo giving me championship-level high fives before I walked out the door. Missed capturing those (photographer irony), but I did get one last set of cuddles on his throne — the top of his favorite chair.

Reagan National was fully in holiday mode: giant trees, garland everywhere, and that classic view of the Capitol behind the taxiing planes. DC really knows how to set a scene.

And then… the flight.
Normally I’m a guy—my go-to, my sanctuary in the sky.
But today… not my choice… I boarded American. 😅

Group 6.
Sixth-class citizen.
Aft-cabin purgatory.

At one point I was pretty sure someone was going to hand me a shovel and ask me to help push-start the plane.

And look, if I have to say something nice about American today…
I guess they’re better than JetBlue?
Not exactly a jingle-bell-ringing endorsement, but hey — it’s the holidays and I’m trying to be kind. 🎄😂

Also not flying out of my beloved today — another disappointment!
Shout-out to IAD, though: consistently smooth, consistently classy! 🙌💙 But know this, your sister airport took good care of me. Also, your social team deserves cookies. And a photo next time I’m through, which I hope won’t be long.

But we adapt.
We endure.
We take our seat one row from the very back and say, “Sure. This is fine.”

Final assignment of the year. Destination: sunny Orlando — and maybe a few Floridaman stories. I’ll take it.

Bags stowed (barely). Caffeine secured.
Time to make the photos. 📸✨

Time to Make the Thanksgiving — St. Louis Edition 🦃✈️

Thanksgiving travel kicked off bright and early this morning with a flawless 06:28 high-five from Leo — the official household sendoff ritual. ✋🐾 But he definitely looked sad to see us go… complete with the tiny paw on the front door window. 😿 Don’t worry — Carmen from will be taking great care of him while we’re away.

Not a work trip this time, but the tradition still holds: Time to make the photos — Thanksgiving style.
And today also happens to be our 18th wedding anniversary of our first ceremony, which makes the whole thing feel extra special. ❤️

We hopped onto a regional jet for a quick flight to St. Louis, treated ourselves to First Class, and leaned fully into the holiday beverages. kicked things off with a mimosa, while I went straight for the Sleigh Bell Spritz — Sprite Winter Spiced Cranberry + Tito’s + cranberries bobbing around like cheerful little ornaments — and followed it up with a Baileys & coffee because… holiday rules.

Bonus milestone: somewhere over the Midwest, I officially earned my renewed Silver status for the 2026 flight season. ✈️🥈 Always a good feeling to level up mid-flight.

Sunrise at , poinsettias everywhere, a tiny CRJ550 waiting on the ramp, and two anniversary travelers sipping festive drinks in First Class… not a bad way to start Thanksgiving week.

Now onward to St. Louis for food, family, and maybe a few photos along the way.

✈️ Time to Make the Photos: Denver Edition

Leo helped me pack last night — and by “helped,” I mean he climbed straight into the suitcase and declared it his new territory.

Before dawn, he joined me for our run — front seat, paws on the door, eyes on the menu. We even got in our signature high five before I hit the road. 🐾☕️

was eerily quiet this morning — like a dream sequence in a horror film. I haven’t seen it that empty since the pandemic.

That said, while there was no one in the airport, somehow everyone at the airport was at my gate and on my flight. 😂

Flying and repping Team on this one.
Time to make the photos, Denver. 📸✨

“Time to Make the Photos: Charlotte Edition”

Early start. Leo supervised packing last night — and briefly tried to stow away just to make sure I didn’t forget him. This morning, he got one last high-five before I headed out the door for a week in Charlotte.

Caught the sunrise spilling over — that calm before the rush when travel still feels full of promise. Flying , as always.

Now it’s off to North Carolina with Team for the 54th Child Neurology Society Annual Meeting — long days, late nights, and a lot of good work ahead.

Time to make the photos.

From Luke to Leo, the shirt magic lives on. 🐾♌️🍕✈️

Flying home United First from Chicago O’Hare to Dulles, but not before grabbing deep dish at Reggio’s in Terminal C—and meeting my birthday twin Danille, all thanks to this Leo shirt. What started as a tradition with my Luke shirt (sparking smiles from cat lovers everywhere) now keeps pulling in fellow Leos and even the occasional little kid named Leo who thinks I’m repping his name. Some shirts just have a little magic woven into them. 😸
