Don't sleep on an ugly space.

This is honestly one of my favorite things to teach because the transformation that happens when you start training your eye is wild.

When you slow down and actually ask yourself the right questions, everything changes. What lens am I reaching for? Am I shooting wide open so the background melts away, or am I stopping down so the viewer can actually see the space I'm working in? What's happening in the foreground, what's happening behind my subject, how close am I, how far back should I step, is everything lining up the way I want it to within the frame? Knowing what to look for and knowing what questions to ask is what makes you a stronger photographer, and honestly it's what sets you apart.

This was my first time teaching S**t to Shine and I cannot tell you how much fun it was being outside with everyone in that gloriously terrible space. There is something so satisfying about watching a photographer look at a beat up wall or a rough alleyway and start to actually see it differently right in front of you. This was my third year at Shutterfest and every single time I leave more fired up than when I got there. This is exactly why I love what I do.

Meet Ava, one of my 2026 senior ambassadors, and she came ready to show you guys exactly who she is.

A Penn cheerleader, a competitive dancer, a painter, a girl with so much going on and somehow still one of the most fun and easy people I have ever had in front of my camera.

We took over the field and she absolutely owned every second of it. This is just the beginning for Ava.

Ekkkk!!! I’m so excite!

I received my Wealth Mastery packet today from Tony Robbins, and it got me thinking about something we don’t talk about enough as small business owners…

Continuing your education isn’t optional, it’s necessary.

And I’m not just talking about photography skills. I’m talking about learning how to actually handle your money. How to save it, invest it, grow it, and make smart decisions so your business doesn’t just look successful… it is sustainable.

If you don’t learn how to manage money now, more money won’t fix that later. It just magnifies the problem. Money doesn’t change habits, it reveals them.

A lot of people avoid their finances because it feels overwhelming or scary. They don’t want to look at the numbers, the debt, or the reality of where things stand. But what’s actually scary is ignoring it long enough that it gets out of control.

You have to face it. Learn it. Own it.

And listen, education doesn’t always mean going back to college. There are so many ways to grow. Courses, mentorships, immersive experiences… whatever fits how you learn best. For me, I’m all about diving in and applying things in real time.

At the end of the day, we’re the ones building our lives and our businesses. No one else is coming to do it for us.

So invest in yourself. Learn the skills. Get uncomfortable for a bit.

Because that’s how you build something that actually lasts.
