Is this what dog heaven looks like? I’d like to think Hudson’s having a blast somewhere, running through endless valleys of autumn color.

This was at Jenne Farm in Vermont - a place so crowded with photographers that I ended up turning my lens on Hudson instead. Watching him run was better than any landscape. That day became my official photo of the day: Day 12,437 of my 10,000+ project, where I’ve taken a photo every day since turning 10,000 days old.

Hudson passed on Day 15,000 exactly. He was with me for 4,951 days - barely a third of my life, but he filled it like a lifetime.

Yesterday, I said goodbye to Hudson. I photographed him the evening before, and we watched his last sunset together. He sat there in the woods, calm and proud, like he’d already made peace with the world. Through everything, he was a small piece of comfort and continuity in this storm I’m going through. I hope he’s found my mom by now, two loyal souls keeping an eye on me from somewhere quieter.
