Leaning into the moment. So much love for TJ and Nirmal, dear friends I’ve known for years. I shot TJ's stunning beach maternity session a couple years ago, and she truly always brings the 🔥.

When she reached out for this family/birthday session, I was thrilled! I know their kids are amazing, happy children, but little J was having a tough day. As a photographer who focuses on capturing true emotion over perfect poses, I started to worry if I could deliver. I knew that while a moment of tears is authentic, I'd much rather memorialize his captivating smile over his crying face for their walls.

Then, something clicked. I realized: Lean into this. This is who they are today, and this moment is just as important as any other. The pressure lifted, and we just had fun with it!
Frames 17 and 18, where we let go of getting that 'perfect shot' of the four of them, ended up being my absolute favorites.

I was trying to get a more editorial pose when Ashana told me she is "more confident wearing a smile." Fair. I always think best pictures happen when people are free to be themselves, but it's always fun to try a new pose. If it works, great! If not, move on to the next pose. I think this is one of those cases where it did work. rocked the 'serious look' pretty well!

When the assignment's a religious ceremony but the client requests a photoshoot and you happen to have your softbox in the car! Then the rain becomes the cherry on top!

When your old high school buddy tells you in private that he's planning to propose and asks you to capture the moment, you happily agree!

Eric and Denise both live in Chicago but were going to visit family in NJ for the weekend. Eric had planned to propose at Grounds For Sculpture, but bad luck struck with heavy rains, almost ruining our detailed plans to document the proposal.

Thankfully, the rain stopped just in time, giving him a one-hour window to make it happen. We had to make some quick changes and after a lot of detours and frantic texts, we managed to come up with a new plan without arousing suspicion in Denise.

Congratulations Eric and Denise!! Enjoy the wedding planning!

If you have not experienced a South Indian Roce ceremony, have you even lived?! Cracked eggs on heads, rice milk and cream pies to the face, pool dives in full outfits! WOW!

My googling told me that the "Roce Ceremony is celebrated by anointing the bride and groom with freshly squeezed coconut milk, also called Ros, which is where the word Roce comes from and coconut oil. The Roce Ceremony is the Catholic wedding equivalent of the Haldi ceremony in Hindu Weddings."

But I hadn't a clue of the awesomeness that awaits. I'll let the images do the talking, but suffice to say this was by far the most fun pre-wedding event I've ever photographed! I didn't know the full extent of what I was in for... And maybe Jeremy's family, from France, didn't either.

Thank you Priyanka and Jeremy for trusting me to capture the immense love between you two and your families alike! Looking forward to tomorrow 🙏🏽
