I hear all the time “we’re just eloping do I really need a veil”
FIRST: there’s no “just” eloping. You’re getting married. It’s a big deal
SECOND: yes…. I mean if you want fun photos with it that is🫣

You don’t have to wear it the entire time which is why most people are against it. It’ll get in the way. The wind will be crazy. Yes, most likely. But let me in on a secret… you can do what you want when you’re eloping. You want to throw it on for a few photos and then put it back in your backpack COOL. Want to wear it the whole time? Also cool!

Hot take: elopements aren’t just the ceremony.

Some of my favorite photos happen before couples ever leave their Airbnb.

The coffee. The vows. The nervous excitement. The kids running around. The dress hanging in the corner. The quiet moments before the adventure starts.

You don’t have to skip the meaningful parts of a wedding day to elope. You just get to do them your way.

Activities to do in the morning:
-make coffee together
-have coffee on the porch
-getting makeup/hair done
-pack picnic basket together
-dance in the kitchen

8 years married, together for more than half our lives, and somehow it still keeps getting better.

Last year, on our anniversary, my dad passed away. In the middle of the grief, we didn’t even realize what day it was until later that night. Since then, June 2nd hasn’t felt the same, and I don’t think it ever will.

So this year, in Scotland, we renewed our vows. Not because our marriage needed it, but because our love still deserves a day that feels joyful to celebrate.

Scotland has officially made it onto my “why would anyone ever have a normal wedding” list 😭

Spent the evening running around the hills outside Edinburgh with these two and honestly??? The light here does half my job for me. I was prepared for the wind, the rain, the overcast skies but apparently I brought the good weather with me because we had clear blue skies and a golden hour to finish off the night 😳

If you’re thinking about eloping in Scotland because you want something that feels cinematic but still actually you… I get it now.

Not every moment has to live on the internet to matter.

One thing I’ll always respect as a photographer is how each family chooses to share their lives online especially in a world where everything feels so public now. Some parents share everything, some share nothing, and some fall somewhere in between. There’s no right or wrong way to do it.

I love that im trusted to still document these moments in a way that feels comfortable and safe.

And just because something is private doesn’t mean it’s secret.
It just means it’s protected.

Your memories are still worthy of being captured, celebrated, printed, framed, and loved forever…whether they’re posted online or not.

And always remember, let go of perfection. Let kids be themselves and explore their surroundings. Your galleries will thank you!
