Kayla & Jimmy at Opal Sands Resort 🌴

A destination wedding in Clearwater Beach, Florida with the ocean just steps away and their favorite people all in one place.

What stood out most wasn’t just how beautiful everything was. It was how present they were. Taking it in, staying close, laughing with their friends, and actually living every part of the day instead of rushing through it.

There were so many quiet moments mixed in with the celebration. The kind you don’t plan, but end up meaning the most later.

Opal Sands Resort was such a perfect setting for it all. Right on the water, simple, open, and letting everything else take center stage.

Really grateful I got to document this one.

My number one piece of advice: be present. Everything else fades, but how it felt will stay.

There’s something about the balcony at The Estate at River Run that invites you to slow down. The quiet clink of champagne glasses, the soft breeze, the kind of moment that feels suspended in time.

These are the in between moments I always look for as a Richmond wedding photographer. The ones that aren’t rushed, not posed, just felt.

Because long after the day is over, this is what you’ll remember.

There’s something about black and white that will always speak to my soul.

No distractions, no noise, just emotion, light, and the quiet in between moments that say everything without needing color.

This Virginia Beach engagement session felt especially meaningful in black and white. The way the wind moved through her dress, the softness in their laughter, the way they held onto each other like no one else was watching… it all becomes even more timeless this way.

As a Virginia wedding photographer, I’m always drawn to the moments that feel more than they look, and black and white imagery has a way of preserving that in its purest form.

If you’re planning an engagement session in Virginia Beach or anywhere across Hampton Roads, don’t overlook the beauty of these frames. Years from now, these are often the images that stay with you the longest.

Because trends will come and go… but this feeling never will.

As a 2026 bride myself, I’ve been thinking a lot about this question: what do you want to see the most when you look back at your wedding gallery?

For me, the answer is simple — my guests.

I want to remember what everyone was doing…
Who was laughing during cocktail hour,
Who was deep in conversation at the reception,
What everyone wore,
And most of all — if they truly enjoyed the day.

The portraits will always be beautiful, but the moments shared with the people who came to celebrate with you are what make the day unforgettable.

It’s something I focus on so intentionally for my couples too. Because years from now, those candid moments of your favorite people will mean just as much as the portraits themselves.

The pure joy of being a bride ✨

When the day you’ve spent months planning finally arrives, take a deep breath and let it all go. The details are already in motion, and what matters most now is being present for the moment you marry the love of your life.

Release the stress of the planning and soak in every second. This is your day to feel celebrated, cared for, and beautifully dressed in a way you may never experience again. Let yourself be fully present, full of joy, and completely wrapped in the magic of being a bride.

Why is it not only rude, but sometimes a little hurtful, when someone asks for a black and white image in color?

Because it can feel like the image wasn’t truly seen.

Some photographs are intentionally delivered in black and white for a reason. Not because color wasn’t available, but because removing color allows the moment to be felt more deeply.

Just beyond these doors, the ceremony is about to begin. Inside, flower girls wait quietly in their dresses with their little baskets in hand while the bride pauses for a breath before walking down the aisle. It’s a fleeting moment most guests never witness. The anticipation, the stillness, the quiet courage before everything changes.

When color disappears, you stop noticing the lighting, the decor, the surroundings… and suddenly what remains is the emotion of the moment itself. The bride stepping forward. The flower girls watching. The weight and beauty of what’s about to happen.

Black and white strips a photograph down to its soul.

So when an image is delivered this way, it’s intentional. It’s an artistic choice meant to preserve the feeling of the moment, not just what it looked like.

Because decades from now, when colors and trends have long faded, emotion will always remain.

A venue where every corner becomes a portrait location.

That’s why I love photographing weddings at the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). The variety throughout the gallery is simply unmatched.
