Sometimes time gets funny, it feels like I could slip between the thin parts. It’s hard to explain but when you find one of these places you know.

Sitting on a rock next to Indian River, I close my eyes and hear the hammer strikes on sandstone and limestone blocks. Chipping the irregularities away to make perfect joints and corners. Hammers held in rough callused hands, stone chips flying as skilled masons masterfully shape stone into the perfect piece.
Lost is the patience and skills needed to build these buildings without mortar, gone to a different time that we on occasion are lucky enough to visit.

For over 200 years these walls have stood. Surviving spring snow melt floods, mischievous youth, talks of demolition. For 200 years these walls have kept time thin so we can sit and listen to our ancestors work.

Eventually the last mention of a person will fade, the last thought of them will run through a person’s mind. It doesn’t matter how big an impact they had on our lives, eventually they will fade into the obscurity of time. Live your life with the knowledge that we have all been forgotten by time. Live your life in the present because the past and future are beyond reach.
