It’s a country I truly never envisioned myself visiting…and not for any particular reason…just honestly, never thought about it!
Initially we were tossing around the idea of another country based on some of Ryan’s work stuff and then when that didn’t pan out this kind of randomly fell into place!
With his oldest (Piper) having just graduated college and right before my busy season we thought we’d sneak in a 9 day “getaway” to Japan! It was fun to have Ryan’s lifelong friend and family there so we could make a few memories in between sightseeing together.
Japan is so clean and so organized and everything is just one notch above! This culture has it figured out from no eating in the streets, taking your garbage with you, techy warm (bidet) toilets even in public bathrooms (and ultra clean I might add), thoughtful and purposeful packaging (of all things), truly a system for EVERYTHING that makes it all flow!
People are quiet and polite, you literally never see smoking in the streets let alone fighting and there’s no talking on your phones on the trains!
It works, it’s amazing and…the food -wow wow wow-of course we had the best sushi but also the best ramen and best fried chicken!
I’m not a huge fan of mochi but one restaurant had the best vanilla mochi and…I admit I think I am now a fan of matcha!
Oh and let’s just take a moment for the egg salad sandwiches from 7-11…fresh, crustless and delish!
Sure there is some shopping but truly it’s about seeing the world together, making memories, enjoying good food, experiencing another culture… not accumulating stuff!
And as always- I love that I get to do this with my future hubs- his level planning, thoughtfulness and generosity all while loving me fiercely blows me away🤍 (although we are always missing the full pack of kids and talking about how much each one would love certain things)!
Sayonara Japan 🇯🇵 you are definitely a step ahead !!
