I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself. I have included a compilation of photos. Some of which are mine and some of which are by the incredibly talented friends I am about to mention below. So here it goes…
I have been surrounded by photography since around 2018 when I created a volunteer photography program at the dog shelter I volunteered for. I created the program because I knew we had to do better for our dogs. The photos we were using were sub par to say the least, and I knew I could create something better, something amazing, and something that would get our shelter noticed, our dogs noticed and achieve my main goal of helping dogs in need find their forever homes more frequently and sooner.
I was more than blessed when Emma of Emma B Photography showed up at our doorstep. She changed the face of our small shelter that had been in our community since 1971 and she paved the way for several other amazing photographers who volunteered their time and talents to help homeless dogs find theogony homes and families they so deserved.
While I am no longer with the shelter, it remains one of my proudest achievements. The photography, the adoptions, the increased funding, and the amazing partnerships that I cultivated, to include the partnership with Tradition Brewing Company where we placed adoptable dogs on their beer cans.
I am very open about myself and my struggles and I don’t believe that will be something that ever changes. I have always struggled with depression, anxiety. . . When Covid came around over 2 years ago, it made my struggles even worse and I am still struggling today.
So I made a decision in December of 2020. The decision that I was going to find my joy again. So with the help of my friends Emma of Emma B. Photography & Teresa Hetterick of Teresa Hetterick Photography, both of which were a part of my amazing photography team I had at the shelter, I bought my first camera and instantly fell in love.
While it has been 2 years since I picked up my camera, due to life and a new job, I sadly have not had as much time to dedicate to it as I would like. I have, however, not lost my passion for it and am oolong forward to having more time to dedicate to it.
After much debating, I recently created a photography page on Facebook & Instagram. Why much debating? See, for me, I never want this to turn into a job. I never want it to be work. I ALWAYS want it to be “my joy”. This thing I turn to when life is hard, on the days when it is a struggle to get out of bed, the days when you think “this is exhausting, and I simply can’t handle anymore”.
After pondering the idea for quite some time, I decided to go for it; however, only as a way to share what brings me joy and maybe bring a little joy to others.
My pages are pretty bare at the moment, but I have many photos I am looking forward to getting uploaded and soon. I don’t have a website or a business location, and I don’t see myself ever having either.
What you will find is my “About” section, which for me, is all anyone needs to know…
“…Always for joy, never for profit”
…and that is something that will never change.
