You don't always get to see where the seeds you plant end up.
I thought I was just making a list of this week's favorites.
A novel about a boy the world called different, and the mother who never stopped showing up for him.
Five days at Disney when nobody reached for a phone.
The first slow dinner my husband and I have had since we got home.
And a milkweed pod splitting open in a field of goldenrod, giving every last seed it had to the wind.
But looking at them together, I realized they were all saying the same thing.
Keep showing up. Keep giving. Even when you can't see what it's doing.

Homeschooling and building a photography business both feel a lot like that some weeks. You pour yourself into people and work, and so much of what comes from it happens somewhere you can't see.

Years later it shows up.
In a person you helped shape.
In a photograph that ends up on someone's wall.
In a moment that mattered more than you knew at the time.

The milkweed doesn't hold anything back while waiting to see where its seeds land.

To all the moms who have "fall family pictures" sitting on the to-do list: I'd love to make that one easy for you this year. 🍂

On October 10 and 17, I'm welcoming families out to our land for 45-minute sessions among the fall color in our woods and prairie. It's quiet, it's private, and the kids have room to be kids. The whole experience is about creating portraits you'll love seeing on your walls for years, and each family also goes home with a custom keepsake from their session.

I have 7 sessions open across the two dates. If you'd like one, just comment "fall" and I'll reach out with the details.

The weather just went from 90 to 55 like it saw a State Trooper. 😂

Not complaining though. I have a spiced caramel latte, a sweater I haven't worn since May, and fall portraits on the brain.
