Now in Florida for the winter, I have been working on a collection of images of seashells. Here are a few from that series.

Hold one in your hand and you feel both fragility and resilience. What once sheltered a living creature now rests as a keepsake of the ocean’s rhythm. Some spiral inward like a secret, others fan outward like an open hand. Many bear the faint etchings of their journey—weathered edges, tiny holes, or patterns that look almost painted.

Scattered along the sand, seashells become a mosaic of God’s creativity—simple, intricate, and endlessly varied. They invite you to slow down, look closely, and remember that beauty often arrives quietly, carried in on the tide.

The ice storms around the country can be devasting, knocking down trees and powerlines. But they can also have a beautiful side as shown here. These evergreen branches are covered with ice, hanging like delicate jewels. The sunlight illuminates the ice in a striking contrast against the soft blue cast of the snow in Door County, Wisconsin. Check out my website for more images capturing the beauty of winter.

On my website I recently posted this image -- Baileys Harbor Rear Range Light in Winter -- in black and white. I described it this way: "This serene winter scene captures the rear light and keeper's house at the Baileys Harbor Range Lights (built in 1870) on Lake Michigan in Door County, Wisconsin. This light is set back from the shore, and at the end of the snow-blanketed path behind the camera is the front light. The ship captains knew they had a safe passage into Baileys Harbor when the two lights lined up, one above the other. Tall evergreen trees frame the snowy landscape, creating a peaceful atmosphere. This monochrome scene captures the serene beauty of winter." I then decided to see what it might look like framed with a double mat, the bottom mat being black. Let me know what you think.

Frozen icicles form a stunning cascade over a rugged ice formation on a fishing dock in Gills Rock, Door County, Wisconsin. The ice forms in freezing temps when waves crash over the dock. This happens in December and early January before the bay freezes over. The muted sky adds to the chill and serenity of the scene.

On a warm summer day, a serene sunset casts warm hues, reflecting vibrant oranges and blues in the calm waters of Sister Bay in Door County, Wisconsin. Smooth stones line the peaceful shoreline, enhancing the natural beauty of the scene. The scene is much different today (January 3, 2026)! This image was sold as a 1000-piece puzzle as a Christmas present this past season.

A pier covered in thick ice extends into a frosty bay under a cloudy sky in Sister Bay, Door County, Wisconsin. Rocks and frozen waves surround the structure and snow can be seen falling from the clouds in the background, creating a striking winter wonderland. Notice the white Adirondack chairs still sitting on the inner dock. This image was captured with an iPhone in late December before the bay froze over... and just before we headed south.

FIVE REASONS TO BUY DOOR COUNTY PHOTOGRAPHY ON SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY

1. Celebrate Local Beauty: Door County’s landscapes—sunsets over the bay, lighthouses, cherry blossoms, and shoreline scenes—are uniquely stunning. Purchasing photography captures that beauty and brings a piece of Door County into your home.

2. Support Local Artists: Every print purchased directly supports photographers who live and work in the community. Your investment helps sustain their craft and encourages them to keep telling Door County’s story through their lens. When you purchase someone’s art or photography, you’re buying more than an object. You’re buying hundreds of hours of errors and experimentation. You’re buying years of frustration and moments of pure joy. You’re not buying just one thing; you are acquiring a piece of a heart, a piece of a soul… a small piece of someone else’s life.

3. Keep Dollars in the Community: Shopping small ensures your money stays in Door County, strengthening the local economy. It’s more than art—it’s community building.

4. Give Meaningful Gifts: Photography makes a thoughtful gift. A Door County scene is personal, memorable, and far more meaningful than mass-produced items. Perfect for holiday giving.

5. Join a Movement: Small Business Saturday is about choosing people over corporations. By buying local photography, you’re part of a nationwide effort to uplift small businesses while celebrating the character of your own community.
