This is what you call a Real Life Session. The sweet. The silly. The messy. The unposed moments that happen between “smile at the camera” and “okay, one more.” The way your kid’s hair does its own thing. The way you laugh without thinking. The way real life actually looks.

There may or may not have been some candy bribery involved in these pictures.

I will never be against bribery when it comes to pictures. I’ve done it before and I still might even do it with my own kids (who are teenagers!).

But several years ago, I remember listening to a well‑known photographer who talked about how she doesn’t believe in bribery. I was shocked. How else do you get little wigglers to stay in a spot?

She talked about how the success of a session can happen way before the pictures even start.

She encouraged her clients to talk up the experience to their kids. Getting them ready, helping them know what to expect, and making them excited.
How much fun they’ll have.
The cute outfit they get to wear.
What kind of cool place they’ll explore and what they might see.

Even talking up the photographer:
Let’s see what kind of funny noises she makes this time.
I bet she’ll love seeing how big you’ve gotten this year.
Do you think she can guess your favorite color?

And honestly… she was right. The magic doesn’t have to start with candy or bribery, though trust me, I’m still fully supportive of a well‑timed fruit snack. It’s just that there’s another layer to it.

When kids show up already excited, already curious, already feeling like this is something fun they get to do… everything flows easier. The smiles come quicker. The wiggles turn into personality instead of chaos.

So yes, I’ll always cheer on the candy‑bribery method, it’s tried and true.
But the real secret?
It’s the joy you build before you ever arrive.

Fall is falling and honestly… I’m falling right along with it.
Okay yes, cheesy. But also accurate.

The colors, the cooler air, the families I get to photograph. I’m fully smitten.
I’m falling into the rhythm of the season… photographing families, editing galleries, living life, loving the chaos, and trying to keep up with the magic as it moves.
I’m falling into gratitude for every family who trusts me with their memories.
I’m falling into the moments that matter.
I’m falling into the beauty I haven’t shared yet because fall has been full behind the scenes.
I’m falling into the work that feels like purpose.
I’m falling into the stories that every family brings.

October is flying, and we’ve only got a couple weeks left of this spectacular season. Just a couple spots left if you want to sneak in before fall closes its chapter.

Might be an unpopular opinion, but I’ve never loved the captions like “Ah, look at this cute family.” It doesn’t tell a story. The photos can tell the story, of course, but I always feel like I’m doing my clients a disservice when the caption doesn’t honor the meaning behind the images. It makes a gallery feel generic instead of personal.

And this family? Their story is anything but generic.
I’ve been photographing them since the twins were born. They were truly the best newborn twins ever. Over the years their family has grown, the kids have stretched taller, and the older three have become completely enamored with their baby brother. Watching them together is one of those quiet joys that never gets old.

But after all that?
Yeah. Look at this cute family!

I don't think I will ever begin to fully describe the beauty of this trip.

Chiapas, Mexico 2026

Bonus challenge, not sharing a post with 100+ pictures because you Know I took A LOT!

Small backstory. I was 3 months old when my family (my mom and dad, 2 older siblings and I) moved from Iowa to Costa Rica. After a year, we moved to Chiapas, Mexico and lived there for about 5 years. While there and since, my dad has worked with Bible Translations all over the world and in this area, working with the Tojolabal Bible.

Tojolabal Bible Dedication. It will take some time to be able to share and describe the dedication with dry eyes. It changed and impacted not only me and my family, but those receiving the bible in their own language, the language of their heart. The translation of this Bible has come to an "end" but it is just beginning for so many. Over 2000 people came to the dedication, both near and far, some traveling for hours, and everyone receiving a bible.

Over 30 years since we had lived in this small little village, and for my older sisters and I, 30 years since we had been back. Many still remembered us, and everyone greeted us with open arms and hearts.

While on the trip, we were able to see some of our old homes where we lived and schools attended. And even able to sit and visit with amazing people. Again, with their kindness, generosity, welcoming and loving hearts.

And finally, we didn’t just soak up the sights, sounds, and amazing food, we got to experience it all together as a family, and that’s something I’ll never forget. There were many, many tears, but also joyous laughter and memories I will carry with me always. ❤️❤️

I really wish pictures had sound, because all I hear when I look at these is the nonstop giggles from these two goofy boys. The kind that fills a room and makes you laugh right along with them.

Family sessions are basically joyful chaos in the best way. Running across fields, teasing each other, big laughs, group hugs, and all those tiny in‑between moments that make your heart squeeze. I love letting kids, both big and little, lead the way. Older kids bring their own kind of magic: the inside jokes, the easy banter, the way they slip right back into being playful the second the camera comes out. Watching the whole story unfold around them is my favorite part.

Fall is coming fast, and my calendar is already getting cozy. If your family is hoping for updated photos this season, now’s the perfect time to grab a date before they’re gone.

Who's there?
Chicken Butt. Ahahahah!

A very boy-ie boy session with these two. Between the wrestling matches, a couple bo**er jokes, and showing off some sweet muscles, I am completely here for it. I Love this style of session. Especially me being a boy mom who has seen and heard it before. It's authentic, it's fun, it's who they are right now.
