Rush hour traffic in Silverton. Love the random encounters when on the trails. I never knew sheep in Silverton were a thing.

The weekend started off well enough. After waiting a couple months, it was finally time to cash in our camping reservation and spend three days exploring, playing games outdoors, and roasting s'mores. We got the new set up, played (and fell) in the river, shot sling shots. Then while playing cards with my son our outing took a turn as we turned towards the cries of my 5-yo as she lay on the ground below the tent.
Trying to heed the "3 points of contact" rule for climbing the ladder, she had put her tablet in her mouth but when it slipped from her teeth she let go to catch it then lost her balance. There was no visible injury but we decided we needed to get her x-rayed. I quickly packed up camp, fighting off scorpions, while the wife consoled and made a splint from a stick of firewood.
3 hours later it was confirmed she suffered a buckle fracture in her wrist and they sent us home in a proper splint. Today she goes in for a real cast. Fortunately, it appears surgery won't be necessary.
Last night we made hot dogs and s'mores in the backyard. She says she's still excited for the next camping trip.

I hear Colorado got snow already.
Problem with those early storms is that trees haven't lost their leaves yet and can't support the weight of wet snow. My parents lost a couple large tree branches, one fell on their car. And when I say branch, we're talking like 20 feet long from a 50' tall maple. No small thing. Fortunately damage appears minimal.

Some Rolling Mountain to get you inspired for the weekend ⛰️.
I'm pretty sure every "overlander" that's done the Silverton/Ouray/Telluride trails has camped here and taken a picture of this prominent peak. Rolling Mountain is like a poor man's version of Half Dome 😂.
