Susan Ragan Photography Portrait photography is my thing because I look at it as an artistic expression.

I try to capture the subject's being more than just push the shutter and get out of there. I like to get to know my subject before beginning so they will relax and the pictures reflect that.

Joe Henderson, the greatest saxophone player in my lifetime. This should have been the cover of "Lush Life" (which won the Grammy), but the executives at Verve picked an exceedingly boring frame instead. I gave this to Joe and one that was 3 feet by 3 feet to his family when he passed away. This photo means Lush Life.
