We started a blog about the making of our feature‑length, IDA‑fiscally sponsored documentary Asylum: Not Abandoned. The latest post explores my history of creeping around uninhabited places - and how I now see them through the eyes of a filmmaker.

What is it about empty and uninhabited places that is so intriguing? I’m fascinated by them. I can think of a few reasons right off the top of my head. Entering them is like an experiential history lesson.

Working with local businesses around Northeast Wisconsin has been one of the best parts of what we do. Here’s a quick reel from some recent shoots featuring: EAA - The Spirit of Aviation, Paine Art Center and Gardens, Tomaso's Appleton, The Wild Goose Exchange, The Vault (Clintonville), Full Swing Fitness and Rehab, Vines & Rushes Winery, WASC, Avaii Wealth Management, Tom O'Connor, Patti Crump
BTW – The music for this reel was also produced in-house 😉

To tell the story of The Sheboygan County Hospital aka Sheboygan County Comprehensive aka “The Sheboygan Asylum” it is imperative to film the location in all seasons, telling not just the stories of the past but also the present and future. The building itself is a character of great complexity and it is our intention to share it from multiple angles and points of view. At first we had been hesitant to look at its current phase and personality as a “Halloween Haunt,” but then we realized that we were being close-minded. After all, historically we enjoy a good haunt. Also, we don’t want to write a narrow narrative that only focuses on the past and dismisses what is current and present. Autumn, with leaves falling in vibrant colors, Halloween, and the idea of a “Haunted Asylum” will persist whether we choose to look at and examine them or not, so we might as well go ahead and take a good look! After-all Halloween is really all about confronting fears, and ultimately that is what the story of is all about too; confronting fears though entertainment while keeping a building with many stories, histories and past lives alive and kicking. Happy Halloween from the crew at on the set of “The Asylum.”

ALSO!!!! I had the opportunity to meet Mark Burnham, and get an autograph from the prolific working actor who most recently played “Leatherface” in the 2022 . Of course, I was more excited about his appearance 😁😂😁🧛🏻🧟‍♂️

This was our 7th time attending ! Every year is a little different and every year is wonderful. It is always a bit emotional to leave. The people, the place, the films, the conversations are always extraordinary. Thank you so much .studio for nurturing this festival every year! And a massive thank you to all of the volunteers who keep this festival going smoothly all weekend! It was so special for us to have our sizzle reel for our documentary that is currently in progress screen this weekend!

We have been filming for over a year now. Here are some behind the scenes photos from our first day of shooting on location last summer at the Sheboygan County Asylum, the place my dad called home for the first eighteen years of his life.
We have decided to start journaling about this filming process. Because, it has been a lot… - Read my first blog post about this experience to follow along and learn more. If you enjoy our blog, consider subscribing for updates about the documentary.

We are super thrilled to announce that we are headed back to our favorite film festival, Fresh Coast Film Festival in Marquette, MI this fall (Oct16th - 19th) ! This will be our 7th time in attendance and the 4th time we have either made or been in a film that was showing. This year we will be sharing the four minute sizzle reel from our feature-length documentary project that is in currently production, Asylum: Not Abandoned. Here it is, our Passion Project:
For the past year we have been working on and self-funding a feature length documentary about the mid-century mental hospital in rural Wisconsin that my father and his siblings called home. But now we need your help to keep production moving forward. We have partnered with IndieGoGo for crowd funding. Have a look at our campaign and perks for backers and let us know if you are interested in watching this movie! 🎥 🍿

Right now, we’re reflecting on and appreciating the personal stories, meaningful campaigns, diverse locations, interesting projects, and people we’ve had the privilege of working on and with in 2024.

We filmed a personal documentary about a Texas woman who decided to take up goat ranching in her retirement. For this project we went to Texas twice and spent about 10 days total on location on a working goat ranch in the hill country of Texas.

In collaboration with ecologist Israel Del Toro, we raised awareness of the often overlooked value of urban forests while filming all around Appleton WI, over the course of almost a year. We were proud to screen our short documentary “Money Tree” at the Fresh Coast Film Festival in Marquette Michigan this past October.

We spent two beautiful days on location in the Northwoods of Wisconsin filming a high-action, activity-centric website header video for Camp Nicolet for Girls in Eagle River to replace their static website images with an engaging video highlighting exciting camper experiences.

We produced an organic “interview style” commercial for Avaii Wealth Management firm to capture the genuine personalities, thoughts and feelings of the partners who are passionate about helping their clients.

We started pre-production and filming on a new feature-length documentary about two siblings confronting their own coming of age stories as they grew up in a mental institution in a rural and remote area of Wisconsin, where their parents were the caretakers and superintendents in the 1950s & 60s. This hospital still exists, and while it is not occupied with patients, it most definitely is “Not Abandoned.”

We filmed a short, fun, and dynamic segment at the Paine Art Center and Gardens in Oshkosh for a national cable real estate TV show, The American Dream TV. The museum was decorated in the theme of “The Nutcracker” and was stunningly beautiful! Working with realtor, Tom O'Connor and Paine marketing director, Noell Dickmann made this shoot all the more enjoyable!
We also filmed four new Yoga practice videos for our very own website, MindBodyGood.com, that we are continuing to grow, expand, and contribute to.

It was an outstanding year for MTM! We have so much gratitude for the work that we get to do. We are looking forward to many more compelling projects of all sizes, expanding professional growth, and new work adventures in 2025!

Hey you guys! Wow! We can’t believe Fresh Coast Film Festival kicked off exactly a month ago today! It was incredible as usual and it was so much fun to premiere our film, Money Tree for our producer and idea man . We loved meeting and mingling with a bunch of fellow filmmakers like, too. is always down for an in depth gear chat! Further, we really want to thank the many folks from Appleton and elsewhere who came out to support , Money Tree, and ! We are forever Fresh Coast fans, it is always part of our year, and we highly recommend adding it to your calendar of rad events to check out! Also it was super cool to see that there is still a Marquette and Fresh Coast fandom for our first doc that premiered at Fresh Coast in 2019, A Cut Above. 🥰☺️

Here are a few photos from a great weekend near the big lake! 📸 I should have taken more… 🤷🏻 We have been so busy! 😅😅
