What should you wear for photos with your horse? 👀

My biggest advice: don’t dress like you’re going to the barn just because your horse is in the photos.

You can absolutely wear the dress.
The boots.
The hat.
The outfit you’ve been saving for something special.

Your horse already brings the “equestrian” part.

A few things that photograph especially well:

• Movement and texture
• Colors that complement your horse instead of matching them
• Boots you can actually walk in 😂
• Accessories that feel like you
• An outfit with enough contrast that you don’t disappear against your horse

And yes, walking through the grass in a floral dress and cowboy boots with your horse is ALWAYS a good idea.

Every horse person has a type.

Maybe it’s a color.
A certain amount of chrome.
A big b***y.
A tiny little head.
A ridiculous mane.
A very specific breed you will defend until your dying breath. 😂

And then there are the people who say, “color doesn’t matter” while somehow owning four horses that look suspiciously similar.

So I’m curious…

What’s the horse trait that gets you EVERY. SINGLE. TIME?

This reel has been sitting in my drafts for OVER A YEAR. 😅

Which is honestly criminal considering how good this pink looked on a gray.

One of my favorite parts of equestrian brand shoots is figuring out how to show the product without making everything feel like an ad.

The details matter, but so does seeing it actually move, ride and exist on a horse.

Anyway, consider this my official attempt at freeing the content that’s been held hostage in my drafts. 😂

Want better sale photos of your horse? Start here 👇

1. Get the camera LOW.
Shooting down at a horse can make their legs look shorter and distort their proportions.

2. Pay attention to the feet.
A horse standing camped out, underneath themselves or with one leg awkwardly hidden can completely change how they’re perceived.

3. Step away from the barn.
Trailers, gates, buckets and random equipment pull attention away from the horse. A clean background makes a HUGE difference.

4. Watch the ears.
You may only have about three seconds between “cute and interested” and “I am absolutely done with this.” 😂

5. Don’t forget the close-up.
Buyers want to see expression and detail too, not just four conformation photos from 30 feet away.

Good sale photos don’t need to make your horse look better than they are.

They need to show your horse well.

Save this one for the next horse you’re listing. 📌

Senior photo advice nobody asked for:

Bring the weirdly specific thing that means something to you.

Not because it matches your outfit.
Not because you saw it on Pinterest.
Not because it’s what everyone else is doing.

For Madisen, that meant her horse AND her grandpa’s car. 🤍

And those ended up being some of my favorite photos from her entire session.

So here’s my vote: senior photos should include at least one thing that tells me something about you without you having to explain it.

Your horse. Grandpa’s car. Your dad’s old truck. Your show jacket. Your instrument. Your dog. Whatever is yours.

Send this to a 2027 senior who needs to start thinking about their photos 👀

Did anyone warn you that being a horse girl means having two completely different wardrobes?

It took me far too long to realize that some people feel horse girl attire is not always acceptable to wear outside of the barn.

One says: ✨ functioning member of society ✨

The other says: these jeans have hay in the pockets, there’s probably horse hair in my bra, and I’ve been wearing the same barn sweatshirt since 2017.

There is absolutely no in-between. 😂
