Icy Teeth

Peaks of the Matanuska Glacier rising towards the sky. Hardly anything else can make you fee so small as standing at the base of it. This glacier is 22,000 years old, and although it has been receding since the last Ice Age, it used to stretch all the way past present day Anchorage and at it's largest it ran nearly 85 miles, carving the Matanuska Valley between the Chugiak and Talkeetna Mountains. Today, the glacier runs for 27 miles, with the ice taking about 250 years to travel from the source all the way to the terminus.

Floating in the Rain

The Tufted Puffin (Fratercula Cirrhata) is a species of puffin common to the Northern Pacific. Like many puffins, they spends most of their year in the open ocean, only coming to land for nesting during the summer months. Tufted puffins get both their common name and latin name from the yellow tufts over their eyes, however they all lose this distinct plumage in in the winter while at sea. These little birds are always fun to watch.
