Deep in the forests of Shenandoah National Park, you can find streams such as this one. Find a trail, get out of the car, hike and discover nature.

When standing far away and photographing a subject like these coastal rocks, sometimes you can forget, just how big they are. That's why I captured this image with a lone person strolling the beach. It definitely provides a "Sense of Scale"

"Coastal Hideout" On a peninsula, north of Canon Beach, there is a somewhat forested spit of land perfect for a hideout. At least that's what the Fratelli's from the Goonies thought. This image was taken where their hideout is, looking south along the coast.
PS - I had no clue that this was here, Amy researched this.

Studies have shown that being near or looking at water can promote a deep sense of relaxation or calmness.

As humans, it is in our nature to look at the grand landscapes. Even as a photographer, this is typically the first thing that you do. However, we should all take time to see the less obvious as well.

While out on a hike to shoot a spectacular sunset landscape scene, the setting sun highlighted the blue waters with its warm, orange glow. I turned my camera away from the big scene, zoomed in on the water and slowed the shutter speed ever so slightly to provide a sense of wave movement.

At this moment, as the studies have indicated, I was in a sense of deep tranquility. The study calls this state the "Blue Mind", and that is what I am calling this image.

When you and your good friend and fellow photographer, Lars Gesing Fine Art Nature Images decide to climb a 250 foot high & steep (up to 30% slope) sand dune for sunset. We were there in time to scope our the perfect location and wait for the magic to happen.
One of the greatest unknowns when you head out to photograph is, will the light cooperate. On this particular night, it seemed like it was not going to. The clouds were building, but at the last minute, we got a slight break in the clouds that sent rays of super warm light, turning the scene into "Coastal Gold". After those few moments of intense warm light, the switch was turned back off and we headed back down, happy that we were there in place to capture this sight.

There are haystack rocks up and down the Oregon coast. Seen here is Chief Kiawanda Rock, named after a prominent Nestugga tribal chief from the early 1800s and is actually about 100 feet taller than the famous Cannon Beach Haystack Rock.
As the sun sets on another day, it is my intent with this image, that it helps you to sit back, relax and "Reflect" on another day. Take these moments of peace, unplug and just take it all in.

A few weeks back, I spent some time on the Oregon coast capturing the beauty that it offers. Right away, everyone thinks of Canon Beach, as they should. During the day, the crowds can become a bit overwhelming. However, before the sun has even cracked the horizon, during Blue Hour, one can enjoy "The Calm" - before the crowds and noise arrive.
