It’s time to turn the calendar, again. September, when fall colors arrive and give us one last visual blessing before going dormant. I took this last fall high up on the Million Dollar Highway, looking back down the valley towards Ouray.

I love to get more abstract with some of the photos I take. For instance with this one, in the foreground, you've got the Niagara River rushing in from the right set against a section of the Niagara Falls plunging downward. I love the movement of the water taking you both horizontally and vertically throughout the scene as well as the differences in color between the two sections.

It was late in the day, the sun was dropping low in the sky when it lit up the falls, one last time. Water cascading over the edge with such force that a mist rises almost 200 feet, reaching the top of Horseshoe Falls.

Today kicks off August, the last full month of summer. Also, this time of year typically brings some monsoon flow to the southwestern US. Last year I found myself driving from Phoenix to Yuma (Pancho’s Cocina has the best breakfast burritos) through a lot of stormy weather. As the sun was setting, and the rains subsided, the skies light up.

We had been following a storm throughout Nebraska. As night fell, the lightning to the north of us was so fun to watch. Between the cloud to ground no strikes, and the texture of the storm clouds, I could have watched for hours

A common summer scene in the Great Plains, fields of golden hay contrasted by dark, stormy skies. While driving a rural, two lane highway, we came upon a scene that caused me to turn the car around to go back and capture it. Something about the contrast of peacefulness and tempestuousness drew me in.

"Not for Everyone"
The Sandhills of Nebraska are a very unique and sparsely populated part of the state. I am in love with this region. At almost 20,000 square miles, It is the largest grass controlled sand dunes in the western hemisphere and under it sits the Ogallala Aquifer. This area was formed about 15000 years ago when sand was blown from the Rocky Mountains. I could just drive around and get lost in this part of the state.
