I will never not be obsessed with getting to make art in the city I call home 🥹

We spent the evening post-elopement running around downtown Roanoke, dodging the rain, and eventually ducking into The Liberty Trust | The Vault at The Liberty Trust for a couple of drinks before these two headed off to celebrate with their families.

There’s something really special about getting to photograph people in a place I know and love so much… especially when I get to do it with couples who are down to adventure with me, trust the vision, and have a whole lot of fun along the way.

I spend a lot of time in fields with mountain views at golden hour but I have a sweet spot for downtown streets, rainy sidewalks, unexpected little cutesy corners, couples who are down to wander around with me (even in the rain), and the freedom to get creative.

if you’re waiting until your toddler can sit still for family photos… don’t. 🤣🥰🫶🏼

this session was proof that they don’t have to. we spent the morning wandering around the park, following miss girl wherever she decided we were going, laughing a lot, and just letting the session unfold. there wasn’t any pressure for everything to be perfect because that’s not what this season of life looks like. and I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.

this sweet fam is now only a couple weeks away from meeting their newest little girl 🥹 one of my favorite parts of this sesh was getting to include grandma too. baby girl is actually being named after her, and I just know these photos are going to mean even more as time goes on.

I think somewhere along the way people started believing family photos have to be perfectly posed to be beautiful. but I don’t really buy that. give me the running, the giggles, the little hands reaching for mom and dad, and the toddler who would rather explore than smile at the camera. because years from now, that’s the stuff you’ll want to remember.

Just a photographer making content in a gravel parking lot while waiting for her clients to arrive. 🫶🏼

Outtakes include: me spinning in circles, aggressively squinting at every car that drove by, and wondering if my clients were about to pull in while I was talking to a camera in my trunk. Lmk if you want a bloopers reel next hahahaha

When I tell y’all I have NEVER struggled this hard to pick photos for a post… 🥹🤍 like seriously. C’MON.

When Jay reached out about doing photos with him and Alexis while I was back in Charleston and casually mentioned that he planned to propose during the session, I was immediately giddy. Proposals are such an incredible honor to be part of. Being trusted to capture one of the biggest moments in someone’s life and getting to witness the surprise + the happy tears and pure joy never ever gets old. Sessions like this reinforce exactly why I love this job so much.

The weather kept us on our toes all day and we shuffled the timing around a few times trying to dodge the rain, but somehow everything worked out exactly the way it was supposed to. We wrapped up just before the skies opened up, and the storm rolling in gave us a chance for some of the dreamiest photos. (if you swipe all the way to the end you’ll see what I mean. ☁️✨)

Jay + Alexis, thank you for letting me be a small part of such a huge chapter in your life. I’m still not over these and probably never will be 🥹 (more to come because I want to share literally every photo from this sesh???)
