Tuesday, Nov 11 around the Sea of Galilee
First stop was a cruise on a wooden boat and sail on the Sea of Galilee. This included the American flag being raised followed by the American anthem. Then was singing and worship. I could see a storm brewing with Jesus calming the storm, Jesus walking on water, Peter sinking after taking his eyes off Jesus, the captain casting a fishing net, not catching a thing. And then saying what Jesus said “cast your nets on the other side”. From there we visited the “Ancient Jesus Boat” – the remains of a 2,000 year old fishing boat that would have been the type used by Jesus’ apostles.
Banias Spring in ancient Caesaria Philippi where Jesus spoke to Peter about building His church.
Visit Magdala, best known as the home of Mary Magdalene. Walk through the ruins of a first century Jewish town where a synagogue from the time of Christ’s ministry was found.
Visit the Mount of Beatitudes where Jesus preached the Sermon on the Mount of Matthew 5:8.
Drive up to the beautiful Golan Heights.
Tagbha, where Jesus fed the 5,000 with only five loaves of bread and 2 fish. Here we visited the Church of Multiplication and enjoyed its remarkable 4th century Byzantine mosaic floor.
As we traveled through the Gowan Heights we skirted the country of Lebanon and within 15 yards of the fence separating Israel from Lebanon
there very visible yellow signs every few feet “Warning Land Minds”. The day ended by visiting the 2,000 year old remains at Capernaum and stand in the synagogue remains, where Jesus ministered. This was a truly moving time for me. The synagogue was much smaller than I had imagined. In the middle was the Magdala Stone, a reading desk or podium. As I closed my eyes, I could imagine Jesus standing, or sitting the unrolling the Torah and reading from it. The place is small enough that Jesus could have looked eyeball to eyeball to those seated or standing there.
