The wild horses of Marble Canyon, Arizona

I’ve encountered this band before while driving along 89A, but this time I passed just as some beautiful soft light was painting the horses and the Vermillion Cliffs in the distance. I stopped and spent about 20 minutes quietly watching them as they grazed.

Canyon Dancers ⚡️

This was my favorite capture from an absolutely insane evening at the Grand Canyon. The storms were creating chaos below the rim, and I’m very glad to hear that everyone who needed to was safely evacuated.

This is a single exposure captured with the Bolt Hunter lightning trigger. This is my first season using a Bolt Hunter, and I can’t recommend them enough. It’s made my favorite time of year in Arizona even more fun.

If you want to capture shots like this we will soon be announcing details for our 2027 Monsoons and Milky Way workshop, follow Sedona Photography Tours or message for more info!

Sometimes, wonder is something you stumble upon.

On photographer Kevin Floerke's first night visit to Alabama Hills, California, he arrived after dark with no chance to scout the landscape. While searching for a foreground for the Milky Way, he unexpectedly came across one of the area’s iconic arches and captured what would become one of his favorite photos.

That sense of discovery is one of the gifts of a dark night.

When we protect darkness, we protect more than our view of the stars. We preserve opportunities to explore, to be surprised, to feel curious, and to experience moments of awe that stay with us long after the night is over.

Here’s to wandering beneath the stars and finding something extraordinary. 💫

I won’t get to join the eclipse party today, so instead I’m throwing it back to the annular eclipse I captured over Utah in 2023.

I love it when celestial events inspire us all to look up and recognize what an incredible experience it is to be alive on this planet. Happy chasing and clear skies to all you out there getting after it today!

Views of the Namibian night sky from lodges 🌌

Still dreaming about waking up under the stars, telling time by the position of the Milky Way. What an experience.

Namibia is a wildly diverse landscape that often feels like another planet. Unique species like the endemic Bottle Tree are the result of extreme adaptations driven by the harsh and unpredictable conditions of the Namib Desert. That it all sits under a world class dark sky is an added bonus that instantly made Namibia one of my favorite countries to photograph.
