photography found Michael when Michael wasn’t looking.
a bad experience in art school. years of disconnection from the medium. then a colleague handed him a Leica one afternoon and said three words that changed everything.

“stop using other people’s images.”

what followed was a year of pure experimentation. no editing software. no post production. just projections, colored light, origami paper, and space blankets. building something entirely his own from scratch.

then came film. a $75 Canon AE-1 from a studio neighbor. a first portrait session with no idea what he was doing. low light. instinct. Ilford HP5.

when the images came back, something clicked that has never unclicked since.

today Michael’s work lives somewhere between the real and the surreal. light as a medium. shadow as a language. every frame a quiet act of transformation. 🎞️
