Today at Kirkland we had lot of new menjo from the recent shinsa. The club gave engraved shotos for the shodans. Great to see the club growing.

We also had Hawkins sensei visiting from Washington DC.

Kirkland Kendo Dojo celebrated its 5th anniversary today!

Seven years ago, the idea first came up. Chen-sensei, Grimes-sensei, and I were all traveling a long way to practice, and we started talking about what it would be like to have a dojo closer to home.

In 2021, that idea finally became reality.

I still remember Chen-sensei saying that maybe we would only get a few students. Looking around today, it's amazing to see how far we've come. What started as a small idea has grown into a thriving dojo filled with dedicated members, friendships, and countless hours of keiko.

Today we celebrated our 5th anniversary with a fun team shiai—our first-class members versus the challengers—followed by some treats and daini dojo.

More than anything, it was wonderful to see everyone together and reflect on the journey we've shared. Thank you to all the members, families, and sensei who have helped build this dojo over the past five years.

Here's to the next five years and beyond!
