I just found out that this little one is my birthday twin! (Or if I knew, I forgot and I’m rediscovering. 😅) I have loved watching her grow! Happy Birthday to a girl with cuteness & s***k! So thankful for .violett who introduced me to and her adorable family a few years ago!

“My kids won’t sit still” - is a common worry I hear from parents.

That’s ok! I don’t expect them to sit still. These adorable sisters would pause for the shortest time, I’d take a few frames, and they’d be off to the next spot.

I ALWAYS expect kids to be kids. That means they’re on the move, easily distracted, and sometimes uncooperative. None of this phases me. Trust the process. I’ll play with them, I’ll wait it out until I get them interacting with me or you the way I want them to for the photos that you’ll love.

And… if you’re still concerned about attention span, mini-sessions are perfect for short attention spans. We work in bursts asking them to be in photos and giving them breaks. 20 minutes of photos and we’ll be done. And you won’t believe how big a gallery you will receive to choose your faves from.

Here’s a PSA to all the parents of girls out there. Raise them to be confident. If there is anything that is going to help her through any challenge in life, it’s confidence. And girls, keep your head high and act confident even if you don’t feel it. No one will know the difference. 😉

When I asked her for some adjectives to describe herself, this senior described herself as confident. Mom may have suggested it, but she definitely agreed… and it clearly showed throughout our session together. I had the so much fun with her, and since I’ve known her since she was little… I can hardly believe she’s a senior already!

Anyone been missing the morning light? It’s been sooo dark in the mornings, and about to get so dark in the afternoons. It’s the time of year where I walk my son to school before sunrise and soccer practice is in the dark.

I definitely have been having a harder time waking up in the morning and missing our late PNW summer sunsets. The daily kid taxi duties get so much harder for me when it’s dark. Anyone else?

Hope you all had a Happy Halloween! 🎃

As the kids are getting older, I find myself needing to be flexible and adjusting expectations. Last night was the first time my soon-to-be 14 year old didn’t spend Halloween with us. Last year she trick or treated on her own, but this year aside from these quick photos, she was at her friend’s and they went trick or treating in their group costume. We picked her up at the end of the night.

We walked around with our 10 year old and his friends and their parents… and then squeezed in some time with the friends who we’ve been doing Halloween with for the last 12 years. Those are the ones that we’re used to spending the majority of Halloween night with. But now the kids have opinions on things!? 😅 And alas, that meant just ending the night there.

Last night was just another exercise in balancing everyone’s needs. Which is hard to do this time of year… how are you juggling things?

This time of year I’m so thankful for Saltwater Studio. It’s warm, dry, and so comfortable compared to the cold that I stood in this afternoon at my son’s soccer game.

Mini sessions are quick, no red or runny noses from the cold, and you can actually see cute outfits rather than just coats!

You may know I'm from Hawaii. Though I grew up on Oahu, as a Native Hawaiian and former resident of Hawai’i, I have been feeling helpless about what I can do to help Lahaina and I can’t stop thinking about what happened last week.

I’ve personally donated to the through , but I still can’t help but wonder what else to do.

Then I saw a reel that Oprah posted this morning and in it she said, “When you don't know what do do, you do whatever you can”.

So this is what I can do. I can take photos. I will create a portrait of your kiddo at this moment in time, for you to look back at and treasure. I will be donating a portion of the proceeds from all my fall fine-art school portrait sessions to benefit the efforts to rebuild Lahaina and support the survivors. There are so many more organizations that are on the ground in Maui and I know they will need long-term financial support to help the community in Maui.

You’ll get a portrait of your kid, and you’ll be helping Maui.
