It was 21 years ago that the Seattle Kingdome was demolished/exploded. It opened in 1976 and was the home of the Seattle Seahawks, Seattle Mariners, Seattle Sounders and Seattle Sonics (for a short time). The cement roof eventually leaked and needed replacement. I was hired to photograph the Kingdome and have various color roof options (blue, green, gray, white) airbrushed onto the color prints (before digital photography/software) so one could be voted on for the new roof. After the roofing contractors were selected, I offered my services to cover the roof removal and install for their advertising campaign. It was tremendous fun crawling over the catwalks inside the dome as I made my way to the roof. It was a long drop from the crown of the Kingdome to 2nd base on the Mariner's field. It was also a challenge lugging my heavy camera case holding a Mamiya RB67, multiple lenses and film backs up the ladders and thru the catwalks. However, once outside and hooked on a safety line, it was a blast seeing Seattle from the Kingdome roof and photographing an event that would only happen once. A very fun career...

Retired Notre Dame Football Coach Lou Holtz was presented the Presidential Medal of Freedom last week by President Trump. Here is my image of Coach Holtz taken in San Diego in 1990 along with an "enthusiastic" University of Miami Hurricane fan (Tom Markham) and rival National Champion, signaling that Notre Dame is #2, not #1. Also included in the photo is Attorney Joe Tonahill, Texas attorney who assisted on defense of Jack Ruby, who was accused of shooting Lee Harvey Oswald on live television following the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.

Celebrating the life of Bill Gates, Sr., I photographed him after receiving the E Donnall Thomas Medal of Achievement and speaking during the Award Dinner on June 13, 1998, presented by Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. The inset image was taken during the Honoree's Tour and Lunch and shows Mr. Gates sharing a smile with Dr. E. Donnall Thomas, hematologist who earned the Nobel prize in 1990 and after whom the Award was created/named. Mr. Gates was an attorney & philanthropist, past President of the Washington State Bar Association as well as father of Microsoft co-founder, Bill Gates.
He passed away September 14, 2020 and was always a technical challenge to photograph...being 6' 7" tall!

Congratulations to Senator Kamala Harris on being selected as Joe Biden's Vice Presidential running mate. She is the first Black woman and Asian American woman to be on the Presidential ticket of a major political party. I created these photos in Seattle and they show Senator Harris with Washington State Supreme Court Justice Mary Yu and during the keynote address.
