👉🏻 You don’t have to go anywhere. Sure, you have to tidy away the clutter. But it doesn’t have to be “Pinterest perfect,” I promise.

👉🏻 Shy toddlers warm up to the camera faster. Being in their comfort zone means less time to open up and laugh and play - and that equates to more photos with genuine emotion.

👉🏻 Access to snacks, naps, and potty breaks. Need I say more? ESPECIALLY with an infant + toddler combo.

💕 In this newborn session pictured, I literally told the family to just play together and do the things they would normally do together as a family. So when their daughter got out her favorite puzzle, I followed their play and captured creative angles and connected moments as they unfolded. Then baby brother needed a nap so I followed them upstairs to photograph their routine. Mom nursed baby while reading her fave childhood book to big Sis. Then baby went down for a nap while we briefly went out onto the porch swing. To finish we got a group photo of the whole gang (dogs included) when baby woke up.

It was absolutely effortless and about as stress free as a photo shoot can get. And trust me, I’ve seen A LOT of photo shoots 😆

✨3 opinions I have as a family photographer that might offend you 😬

1. If you say you want natural, unposed, candid photos of your kids but you can’t stop directing them and telling them what to do, you don’t *really* want candid photos.

2. I think politics are inseparable from how a person runs their business. Everything is political - even photography and art. So, f*ck Tr*mp.

3. Grumpy dads at family photo sessions are selfish. It’s not about you. It’s one hour of your life. Get over yourself.

🌸 This post isn’t about being “edgy” and it’s honestly hard for me to be this brutally honest! 🫣 This is about drawing clients that align with my brand and values, and kindly sending the others elsewhere. ✌🏻

While it feels yucky to talk about anything other than the sh*tstorm that's currently occurring in our country, I know that family photos are a powerful storytelling tool.

Whether it's false internal narratives or societal ones, family photos can tell a different story; that you are worthy of being seen and remembered.

EVERY human needs that message right now. And that message will always be what my business stands for. Thanks for being here.

To the Seattle Mom: Family photos are not just pretty pictures for social media. They are documentation and representation. They are “proof of presence” as Joy Prouty calls it. They are a physical manifestation of believing you are worthy of being seen and remembered.

And that is POWERFUL for women. And when women are empowered:
* The patriarchy doesn’t have a hold over us and how we see our bodies
* We rely more on community than capitalism
* We pass on the values of inherent worth and goodness to our kids
* We raise a kind, empathetic, and emotionally intelligent generation

I know everything is hard and incredibly painful right now. Just keep being a good Mom. Keep documenting this season of life - if nothing else, for your kids to look back on and remember what a bad ass you were. My DMs are always open and I am here for you. We are stronger together.
