I was on my way home from a drive and a hike with my wife when we spotted this on the side of the winding mountain road. An old rusty street sign? Yes, that is deserving of a semi-violent swerve into the shoulder for a photo.

I have had this print on my bathroom walls for years now. Living near water and remembering my connection to water is very important to my well-being.

This video was actually filmed on August 25, 2023, but it took me nearly a year to finally get around to editing it and sharing!

While living in Kirkland, WA, we picked some apples from a nearby apple tree thinking we were going to make a tasty pie. However, we were treated, instead, to (what we believe to be) a Lesser Appleworm who had made their home inside an apple.

Seemingly aware of its new vulnerability, our new friend frantically sealed up its exposed tunnel until it was too tired to work anymore. I had never seen this creature before and I was absolutely fascinated by the way it worked to defend itself.

I realize that most people would see this icky little thing as a pest, but I see the beautiful and impossibly complex nature of the universe in this tiny insect. I am thankful for the moment I was able to share with it.

One of my favorite moments in life is when I'm busy doing something and then I stop in my tracks because something has caught my eye. These raindrops on my motorcycle's leather seat gifted me one of those amazing moments.

I took this photo under the Jacaranda tree in the backyard of my childhood home. I love the gentle hues in the sky contrasted with the deep black silhouette of the tree. Looking at this photo makes me feel peaceful. If I ponder too long, it makes me a little bit sad, too.

These are pretty random photos out of context. For more info, see last week's post. 😊 Even if you don't, they're still pretty cool without the context, no? 🙃 The photo with the blue lighting is my absolute favorite.

In 2014, I made my own microscope from miscellaneous hardware and a laser pointer lens. The following photos are the first few objects I photographed. I have split them into two separate posts so that I don't have to crop any of the photos. This post features a shaving from a pumice bar and a leaf section. Next week's post will show the plastic shavings that were created during the construction of the microscope.

As I mentioned in last week's post, I wasn't taking a lot of photographs at this time in my life. It's funny to see, though, that I was still enjoying selective color when I did get back to it! 😊
