I love golden hour, but I rarely explain why, here are my reasons:

(Also, a nod to one of the most incredible sunsets I’ve ever seen - yes, the sky looked like that.)

* Softer, more flattering light
* Fewer squinty eyes
* Better skin tones
* Less color cast from grass, pavement, and surrounding surfaces
* No weird green reflections in skin and teeth
* Natural backlighting around hair and shoulders
* Better separation between subject and background
* More depth and dimension
* Less harsh contrast
* Richer colors in skies and landscapes
* Fewer distracting bright spots in the background
* Softer, less cluttered backgrounds
* More flexibility in where subjects can stand
* Easier editing and retouching
* More consistent results
* BETTER PHOTOS!!!

Always appreciate the opportunity to meet and photograph people who are doing meaningful work and making things happen in our community.

One day I’ll remember the cameras, the lenses, the batteries, the light stands, the memory cards, and still somehow show up to the shoot wearing these bad boys. I can feel it coming.

One thing parents may not know about me: background checks are a pretty regular part of my life.

Over the years I’ve completed background checks for youth sports organizations, volunteer programs, Girl Scouts, SafeSport requirements, and most recently through Seattle Public Schools.

I’ve spent much of my adult life working with children and families - as a photographer, preschool teacher, nanny, house manager, Girl Scout leader, volunteer, and now a parent of a grown kid myself. Being trusted around children is something I take seriously.

Whether I’m photographing a senior session, a preschool portrait day, a school event, or a family with little ones, I want parents to know that professionalism, safety, and accountability matter to me.

Good photos matter. Being someone families can trust matters more
