My calendar is now open for booking through December 15th - the last day I can photograph a session and have your images back before the holidays.

Availability is getting pretty limited, especially as we get closer to fall. If a date isn’t active on my booking calendar, it simply means I’m already booked that day. There isn’t a separate or hidden calendar with additional dates - everything I have available is online.

If you have extended family coming in from out of town, I may be able to accommodate sessions between December 15th and January 1st on a case-by-case basis. Please reach out to me directly about those.

If you’ve been meaning to get something on the calendar, now is probably the time.

I’ve spent more than a decade building a portfolio out of these kids under objectively terrible photographic conditions: busy backgrounds, high speed movements, manufacturing lighting - desperately trying to produce something better than what I see.

And the whole time I’m thinking:

They should see what I can do with good light.

Then they become seniors and hire me.

Here it is, here’s what I do.

Possibly the best advice I’ve ever heard from a parent during a photo session. She was talking about posing, but it turns out it works pretty damn well for life, too:

“Don’t make yourself small.”

There’s a slightly weird reason I schedule all of my sessions online and require a booking fee: scammers.

Creatives are constant scam targets, and I’ve discovered scammers are surprisingly reluctant to pay me for the privilege of scamming me.

So far, it’s a pretty effective business model.

Most of the photos I post are attached to a story, an observation, something I learned, something that made me laugh - or a photography-related hill I’ve decided to die on that day.

So I don’t post every session. Not even remotely. And it has nothing to do with how much I loved the photos, the people, or the session.

Please don’t take it personally if you never make the feed.

I have an absolutely unreasonable number of beautiful photographs sitting on an equally unreasonable number of storage devices simply because I didn’t have anything new to say about them.

I also have 56,000 images on my phone, so when I need a photo to illustrate whatever point I’m making, I choose from whatever I can find reasonably quickly.

Because despite 25 years of dedication to my craft, I am, like everyone else, inherently lazy.

A little clarification on what I mean when I say “custom location.”

It does not mean I come up with a custom location for you. It means you have a location in mind - or at least an idea - and might need some advice from me about whether it will work well for photos.

If you’ve booked a custom-location session, emailing me about a week before your session is usually the best way to jumpstart that conversation. Tell me what you’re thinking, and I can help you figure out the rest.

And if you have a senior, I’ve already done a lot of the homework for you. I have a handy-dandy blog post with examples of many of my favorite locations.
