I’ve always struggled with the idea - especially from other people - that photography somehow isn’t art. Like capturing light, emotion, timing, connection, and tiny human moments doesn’t count because of the technology involved. But I’ve always had an artist heart, and honestly, artist hearts are usually pretty tender.

Creative people need time, space, heart, and brainpower to make good work. If you trust someone to do their job well, let them create without making them feel constantly watched or pushed. Respect goes a lot further than pressure ever will.

The thing about empathetic creatives is that we already know when more work needs to be done. We think about it constantly. Pressure might get results, but appreciation makes people want to keep showing up for you.

And trust me - artists remember the people who treat them well. The clients, athletes, and families who say thank you, give credit, show support, and make creatives feel valued? We never forget those people.

This skater and her family have always been those people. And that kind of gratitude never goes unnoticed or unrewarded.
