I had a blast teaching a "Weddings and Portraits" breakout session for Nikon on Saturday at Glazer's Camera. The Profoto people were super helpful.

Model: Bri (IG), was excellent. She helped illustrate my goal when shooting Photojournalistic Weddings: looking for spontaneity. It is in those moments that you find the story of the day.

The Students were engaged, enthusiastic, and full of questions!

Hideaway Cellars is a great location. As a Photographer, you never know what kind of challenges a location might present Hideaway Cellars is lovely!

Profoto B10X Plus. What a joy to use! I had the Lights dialed in within moments and had no issues with multiple students utilizing the lights.

Live Demo to follow.

I recently flew down to LA to use Vincent Versace's studio. I had four days to print an exhibit. He has a 32-inch Cintiq. I've always missed working with my hands and the tactile nature of the Darkroom. This renewed my desire to use my M1 iPad 12.9 with the Apple Pencil as an image editing device. I linked it with my Mac Book Pro using Sidecar, hoping that Apple had made improvements. I had tried some 3rd party apps when I bought the iPad with less than satisfactory results.

Then, the solution dawned on me.

What you need:

Apple iPad M1 with 2TB of storage.
Adobe Photoshop Lightroom for iPad
Apple Pencil 2
Apple USB-C adapter (this has HDMI and USB-C)
27-inch BenQ monitor
Extended HDMI cable
iPad easel

These are all things I had on hand.

With the Apple Pencil, mask density is based on pressure sensitivity. I alternate with my fingers, which results in a 100% density, as needed.

What I enjoy is "loading" up a brush with clarity as an example and "painting" on the hair of a subject. This way you can see the effect immediately rather than just a red mask.

The masks can be both more accurate and subtle.

I also use Lightroom Classic and a Synced Collection with Lightroom (iPad), allowing me to utilize the Library database of LrC.

This is a versatile workflow. I've used my iPad solo while in the field. I've found that 2TB of internal storage is enough space for a 2-week trip of heavy shooting.

One of my favorite things is working with the model and creating something unexpected.

Thank you to all our Veterans for their service. Ryan Srogi USN.

Of all the portraits I've made, this is one of the most special for me. Partially because it took years to complete. Getting a candid moment of my Brother is a challenge. This was his first 48 hours stateside after being forward deployed for a year.
